In the latest update, we’ve introduced a new experimental rendering mode - Vulkan.
Vulkan is a low-overhead API that allows us to balance CPU and GPU usage, specifically on multi-core CPUs. That said, with new API, BeamNG should perform much better on big and demanding levels and with large amounts of vehicles.
Does it change graphics?
No. Graphics quality is the same on both DirectX11 and Vulkan modes, most differences you’ll notice are CPU and GPU usage, and overall smoothness of game render. In our tests using NVIDIA GTX 1650 and Ryzen 5 4600H, Vulkan API was up to 2x as fast as DirectX11 under CPU bound scenarios. Currently GPU bound scenarios are slower in Vulkan, we are working on improving this in the future.

If you are interested in trying this out, your PC supports Vulkan, and you are an advanced user feel free to test new API.
Please keep in mind that this might break your game, cause crashes to Desktop, or even a BSOD.
To test the new API simply follow these instructions:
- Open the BeamNG Launcher
- Select Support tool
- Select Vulkan mode

We would like to hear your feedback regarding the performance and compatibility on your computers in this forum thread.
