4 man teams, bracket elimination tournament. 2 first round heats with 3 teams, 1 with 2 teams, consi/loser round had 4 teams, feature event had 4 teams. There was never more than 16 players on the track at one time. I had brought up this idea to bugbear previously, and rocket league ended up adopting a whole new tournament mode similar to what I had suggested, though years later. I really just want last team standing mode though. Deathmatch and team deathmatch are just cheap. Not a good way to gauge derby skill.
Out of curiosity, what does everyone think of the AI? I’ve always found it inconsistent, but at now that it’s “out of early access” and the AI is still so strange it’s just frustrating. Without changing any difficulty settings, the AI can be so easy it’s boring and I’m lapping cars halfway through the second lap, and the next track it’ll just be impossible to catch up to the leading group. The AI in first always tends to end up way ahead of the pack. It’s not exactly fun when the pack always gets spread out so much and either all the AI are way behind me or most of them are way behind me and 1-3 cars are way ahead of me. I’m playing through one of the early career races now and 70 seconds into the race I’m in second with the lead 11 seconds ahead of me, next car back is 3 seconds behind me, and last place is 17 seconds behind me. Edit: Found this in the dev blog for today’s hotfix: “we have more exciting stuff lined up so expect to hear from us again soon”
depends on your driving style and type of car, it is much easier to beat them in something quick but relatively strong like a tristar, or a fast tank like a rammer than it is in something like a killerbee or boomer which is easily tossed around by the larger cars
That's how rough racing is though... In real no rules racing, or like banger racing/figure 8 racing, half the field or more is getting lapped in 10 laps around a 1/3rd mile oval most of the time. So, of course the group is going to spread out as the race progresses. But if you just want pack racing, you could just play oval tracks with 24 cars lol.
Not on my i7 4500U, 15 FPS gets tiring real quick =P It’s not really how much the pack spreads out that annoys me, it’s mostly how inconsistent difficulty is from track to track and partially how there’s always this sort of boss fight AI who gets a large lead. I just played the Supervan vs Bus career challenge, and I’m pretty sure the AI don’t realize that buses are longer than cars, that was a complete mess. I would’ve found it hilarious if I didn’t just want to get the Supervan and end the play session. Looking forwards to getting 24 busses on the short figure 8 track. Pleasantly surprised how easy the busses are on FPS. I’ve never liked the Killer Bee but IMO the Firefly is actually a largely underestimated car for racing the AI. With some upgrades that thing is really fast and handles fine; makes it easy to take a fast line and get to the lead without major trouble. I’m sure against human opponents it gets targeted too much to be any good though, I certainly have a tendency of aiming for them.
Just played the new track. It’s fun but the description/dev blog really overhyped it. My only real problem with it is the performance on my laptop isn’t good, it feels as bad as Motorcity circuit. Didn’t have an FPS indicator enabled so I’m really just going off of feeling there. I also wish the start/finish line was in the beginning of the straightaway instead of the end, it just feels like it’s in a weird place for me.
Looks like we're all starting over, eh? Seems I'm a bit late to get back into the swing of things. I guess it's time to do a little farming to get my Rammer back
The Ramming it Down event is really easy currently and I believe it’s available after only a couple races, I recommend just getting the RS instead of grinding credits for the normal one. (IIRC it use to be a series of races and now it’s just one race on the oval loop).
I'm now satisfied .... I'm no longer satisfied. Well played, Bugbear. Turn the firetruck a few degrees and block off everyone's favorite shortcut. How evil of you! --- Post updated --- Eh, unless they changed the physics of the RS, I personally prefer the base Rammer. Just ask @Aboroath , it's an unassuming car to most but when you know how to swing it around, it puts up a fight with the best of the top tier cars. In other news, the Rocket is a PITA to drive, imo. For the beginner car (excluding the Bandit), it seems to lose all traction when leaving a turn and frankly, not to mention it accelerates like it couldn't haul ass with a bucket anyway. lol Edit - I'm an idiot. Way back when I got the stuff from Bugbear's old website, I used my old msn email. They've sent keys out to those emails and I can't for the life of me get into this old email account. lol The security questions don't make any sense to me, either. Looks like the Bandit is forever trapped in my decrepit email.
Opinions on the new 'bonebreaker valley' track? personally i really like it, the amount of carnage is awesome, especially when using the workshop mod that allows AI to use every vehicle (saw a AI harvester land on a AI boomer from a jump)
