I wanted to leave forums because of that too. But then I just understood that there is no need in taking these dramas that serious - so right now every time I see a drama unfolding, it is just another circus from my point of view. Although if you really plan on leaving in that time - then go ahead, man, hope you have a good rest from all of these.
I'm watching beamng on yt since 2016 i have the game since late 2020 and im on the forums since 2021 its just sad how this evolved. From cameral forum to forum with: spam bots, stolen mods, dumbass kids and paid meshslaps
It's even more sad when you think about how lively the forums used to be. there used to be so many mods and other stuff. Now, it's just scams, meshslaps, stolen mods and just too many people not of age to sign up here. I'll be on here until late next year.
I am here for sentiment (i grew up with creators like Kryton, Insanegaz and YBR) and too see if there are mods that were abandoned and remade or some literally good mods that are made for fun not money (like Autobello Aria, KLJP etc.)
I've also considered leaving the forums, not just because of all the drama, but also just the fact that the quality of posts has just gone down. Back in 2023 and 2024, modders were making super high quality mods and pushing the envelope of what could be done. In late 2024 and early 2025 there was some pretty funny shitposting and in-jokes in the off-topic forum that distracted me from the flaws of this forum. Nowadays, there's only a few modders besides the overwhelming amount of rebadges, meshslaps, and other low quality mods made by kids who think they can make an entire mod in a few hours. Most of the people on the off-topic forums moved on and touched some grass, barely posting anymore because of how far downhill this forum has gone, and now I'm burnt out of BeamNG and really sim racing altogether.
There is another reason on why I’m leaving the Forums. This reason is a bit of a more shocking one that I’ll talk more whenever I’ll announce that I’m leaving the Forums.
I also remember the person who made the lore friendly late 80s to early 90s mustang mod. I tried going into making mods for Beamng a few years ago. I started with a first gen Dodge Dakota but, It was too hard for me. I have massive respect for everyone here and hope everything gets cleared out some day. Until then, I'll be silent on the forums for a while.
those "dumbasses" are a sign of progress for BeamNG itself, it means the game is getting more popular, sure, sucks that some kids just make nonsense posts every now and then, I remember some stupid posts from 2021-2024. About the stolen mods... those have been around since always, they just didn't survive many years, it's a mix survivorship bias and nostalgia. The spam bots are a pretty recent thing, probably a data breach. Paid meshslaps derive from the great paid mod revolution that started with the Picnic, why make fake mods to steal somebody's crypto illegally, when you can just sell something while lying by omission? Some legit paid mods are also pretty sketchy, requiring you to install a Windows program just to play with the mod, which is a very annoying thing if you use Linux. There are still some decent mods being made to this day, and there were also some bad mods back then *cough* Testos Island *cough cough* (Yes, this is a self burn I know). Some guy was complaining that this forum's "hierarchy" is based on modding skill, and it is kind of true, we now live in the "move fast or you're last" (you could say it's a "race") era of the forums, most of society would sadly prefer slop over good quality things, especially because of enishittification and AI. Like I said above, children are an indicator of growth, especially if the game is PEGI-3. Of course those kids would want to start modding, of course they don't know about copyright, and of course they will try to get it done as quickly as they can, the forums are meant to a place where newbies share crappy mods, instead of insulting, we should be giving opinions and improvement advice. btw, it took me 3 weeks to make a stupidly over-complicated license plate mod, it takes time for big stuff, but we shouldn't gatekeep modding, my first ever mod was a goofy vanilla config of the Pigeon/Wigeon.
I feel the same. But I also think that if forum is gonna be like that, it will be just hard for some people to find actually good mods. Imagine being a guy who didn't play Beamng much and doesn't know current mod standards. He will just notice a lot of crappy meshslaps, and for him, something like "BMW with ETK Jbeam and stolen model" is gonna be a a mod quality standard. But still, I will agree that insulting is definitely not a way to communicate with new modders. Although, I don't think people will stop treating them as monkeys with 3 braincells (but I would say that there are indeed some very unskilled modders that can hold such title in my opinion).
Automation mods fall into this category, I have seen some ATMN mods that have a working BeamNavigator and really precise design, but they're buried within 19000 other crappy mods, in that case a car body with 5 fixtures and a sloppy engine are the standard for that category of mods. There's reviews for the repo, the problem with any review system is that users who are satisfied with the mod probably won't leave a review, but those who didn't like it are more likely to leave a bad review. And yes, the community is likely to continue to hate on the forum newcomers and newmodders.
