for real,i wanna know is it better or something, because i see people want it on basically every lil bit outdated thread
Because easier I guess? Like forums you can download rando free stuff while workshop you actually buy the game for the WS content I guess.
The game's website has always been slow for me, so having it hosted through the workshop would definitely improve download speeds especially for the people who for some reason, have really terrible download speeds on just only the beam repo.
It would make it easier than dragging the files into their respective files, but the game is available on the Humble Bundle, which means users with the Humble Bundle would have no access to mods on the Steam Workshop. The website is an alternative so that both HB users and Steam users can download mods.
Can't count how many times my ETS2 career was ruined by workshop mod disappearing or update forced etc. Also there is no privacy with Steam, they collect insane amount of data from you, like pretty much any American company these days, modern day equivalent of Stasi. Drag-dropping a zip is controlled operation, I know what is going to happen, with any automatic feature, including ingame mod browser thing, it is software developer in control of what happens on my system and don't like that at all. So I guess those who want workshop support are not having quite same kind of preferences as me.
idk what it would change for beamng since they wouldnt have to host all the files like on the repo right now. major change would be no copyright issues if im not wrong. they couldnt really control the quality of the mods that are being released on the workshop as much as they can right now with the repo. it would honestly be a double edged sword. on one side you could have mods like the prasu, changing to supra without any names changing bs to avoid copyrights. but on the other side you will also find the most nasty bottom of the trash quality meshslap mods uploaded on the workshop as a result. kinda hate to admit it but unlike gmod, i think beamng is one of those rare jewels that we should just accept what the devs has chosen for the workshop/repo discussion/situation. i like the workshop just for ease of use. one click and thats it. no messing around with a buggy mod manager for months. but for beamng its better dealing with the zips themselfs...
They are too lazy to drag a zip file, or to wait a few minutes for the mod to download (the infamous download speed), or have no idea how making mods for this game works and why it's important to update them more frequently than for other games (or to flag them as outdated/cancelled/on hold).
The devs have stated before that a BeamNG steam workshop would be out of the question due to the fact that it can only be moderated by steam support, and not by the game devs. It also lacks community support and customisation.
