Well, if the machine is capable of 200FPS on minimum (out of intrigue I am going to test what I get myself in a moment) you could then VSync to 60, plus save some power on laptops.

Not here either. I haven't tested it on my new computer, but on my old one it only helped ~10-20% and sometimes mobs would have texture problems and/or be invisible and it caused the dreaded Minecraft slowdown to 0.01 FPS bug to happen more often. Yet another one of Minecraft's awful issues.

Ok, just tested. All minimum settings, except performance set to max FPS (which for the first time ever has made a difference) I am getting an unstable FPS ranging from 120-190 and bizzarely laptop fan screaming at me.

However setting render to normal (was nice to be on far, but I can live without) I can Vsync to 60 without the fan screaming at me on otherwise max settings.

It made a huge difference on my old laptop, 50-75%. Made almost no difference on my desktop beyond being a convenient way of installing installing the connected textures mod and adding HD texture support.

I can get over 550 FPS looking at the sky in windowed mode at low settings. :p Totally useless, but fun.
