well if its sold in america
then it shows if the car can make it into a hard to get into market and see if it makes an effect on it
    see if its successful
the smart car came at the right time and got benefited
a car from European would be good in most European eyes just like american car in america
if you bring that car to another country where the car culture is different and make a success it shows how good you car is internationally
take for example imports which became popular in the 80s and 90s
they were good in there origin country and good in there export countrys
economy cars have the same thing.there made in europe for those who want a car but dont want to spend to much money on it and gas
if it is seen good in international eyes then the car is a worldwide success
people agree around the world that the car is good

also i know its a economy car you buy it when you dont have that much money
but its still not as good as sports cars and muscle cars cause its at the bottom of the spectrum but its a car

    Well yeah, no shit Sherlock.
Don't judge cars like that, Civics are counted as economy cars and they kick Ferrari and Mustang ass when tuned.

Same with the MR2. Cheap, but favored as much as the Celicas and Supras at the time. (It's sporty, but relatively cheaper than the cars I also mentioned)

That's why the MR2 is often used to base a supercar. It's cheaper than ANY supercar, even a Koenigsegg or a Japanese supercar.

I don't count tuned cars being better than the sports car it's quicker than, mostly because it's the quality is of who tuned it and not how the company shit it out, they could make a Ford Pinto faster than a base model C6 Corvette, but they could make a twin turbo Z32 slower than a 83 Corvette.

That's why it sold well in the market, along with again, the Celica and Supra.

It's a variant of a model which is towards sport, so it's still alike to what the MR2 did, although this time, it's a sporty hatch.
