    So I was discussing this topic with several other guys in a chat group earlier and I think I maybe should start a post here.

    The reason why I ask this question here is because I'm pretty confused with the forum.
    Reasons I think why devs making new cars to the game:
    1. Attract new players by awesome-designed cars;
    2. Fun to drive around;
    3. Proving a basic to let users make MODs easier;
    For example: If you want to make a '91 Caprice MOD, you can take suspension, body jbeam from Grand Marshall and slightly modify them since suspension is pretty hard and time-costing to recreate in-game
    The current state in the forum:
    Devs banned real-life car MODs from resource page;
    MODders keep making expansion parts and facelifts from original cars;(most of those facelifts are pretty ugly)
    MODders modifying vans, trucks out of a sedan;

    So why do devs make new cars? What they should do as the current state of the forum is just make a D-Series with 10 different brand badges and exterior designs, so those people who make sh*tty configs will be happy; keep banning real-life brands so MODders will make more facelifts from 1960s to 2050s hovercars from a pick-up.
    I like those people who make expansion parts though, especially AR162B because his MODs are well-designed, so as Firepower's ETK K-Series Shooting Brake and Bernd's stuff. I hate a few others' stuff which I think I shall not name them here in case this thread get deleted.
    Seems my tone is switching to rant mode now:rolleyes:
    And another thing I don't quite understand here is why you can't criticize someone's MOD. I once replied to a thread which I was giving some suggestions but with a slightly criticizing tone, and then I was ranted badly so I edit the reply to "-deleted-". Yes, you shall not deny other's hard work, but I think people still need suggestions to improve their MOD qualities, sometimes could be a criticize to let them know what they have done. And this lead to the topic of this thread: Why do devs make new cars anymore? What I learnt is that MOD of a game doesn't related to copyright issue for the development team of the game. Why RoR allow real-life cars MODs while BeamNG not? Because of the price? I think devs really should re-consider their goal of this game, and of this forum. They should re-find the balance.
    My English ain't really good, wish you can understand what I said.

    Feel free to reply down below, aggressive rejection is welcomed.
    This post maybe edited for several times since I usually like to correct my word issues.

    The developers do allow branded cars on the forums, just not on the Resources page. I couldn't decipher what you were saying about the developers making new cars but I'm sure someone will figure it out.

    They just don't want copyrighted material floating around in their Mods section. They don't care if you upload branded cars into a forum thread, as long as you have made it and/or have permission to release it.

    The only reason that they ban real life brands is for copyright issues to avoid getting sued in court. BTW, it is allowed just not on the resources/mod page.

    ROR? It isn't as popular as BeamNG now so they are less likely to get in trouble... Funny thing is there is a such thing as "illegal cars" in ROR where a non-ror website uses stolen meshes from a modder in the ROR Website... such as the Ford Focus mod for ROR...

    Example: http://unofficialrorcars.webs.com/ is the illegal website of mods for ror like the http://modsgaming.ru/ for beamng.

    So both do have restrictions just like how Russian mods are not allowed here.

    I do agree with your point about all the config mods (which are all mostly awful except for Djplopper's and NinetyNine's, as they actually add new content) and the endless "wagons" and bodystyle versions are getting a bit boring. I do like the dev cars as they are almost always better and more professional than modded cars, and they set the standard.

    So basically, you're telling me stuff like my Covet 4WD CVT mod, AR162B's 5-door Covet or Spaceballs' his High Power Car Pack are all shit-tier, and 99/DJP's config packs aren't?

    If this is bait, fuarrrk me then. If it isn't, I strongly suggest to reconsider what you just said.

    I like how they add more vehicles. And they are going to add more generations to the cars in the future

    I still don't get why copyright of models doesn't matter on the mods page when a simple brand name does...

    Its so backwards that you can rip a car from some big AAA game and just plop it on the mods page with a Gavril logo and that's good to go. If anything the only potential copyright issues will be about models and game resources, car manufacturers have never had problems with it, I mean just look at the huge numbers of GTA modding sites.

    Especially when you consider the only scratch made car mods on here (all like 8) are branded cars and aren't allowed to be released or at least have to make roundabout ways to be release on the mods page.

    this kind of counterintuitive nonsensical non-solution to a non-problem always stems from law interfering negatively with something that is hard to moderate in the first place. I'd put money on the fact that the rules about this are entirely a consequence of legal expertese and some specific case, whether faced by Beam or by someone in a similar situation.

    I don't think body-style add-ons or transmission add-ons count as config. While sometimes unrealistic ones are pretty annoying (for example, CVT to Covet is acceptable but you put CVT on Bolide is pretty unrealistic)

    Please actually read what I said instead of flying off the handle. I never said specifics, I just gave examples. There is nothing wrong with well made mods and bodystyle mods are always welcome, but the endless single vehicle configs are cluttering up the repo a huge amount.

    Devs are making still new cars because they keeping their promise to release all the cars they announced in the beginning of development. Apart from that they work on more cars because there is popular demand for more content. Everytime i read in this forums there is a new post not far away requesting more content. Also drive has to compete with all the other games on the market. We guys on the forums know about the uniqueness of this game and know why it is totally worth its price. The random customer just sees another racing title and asks himself why he should buy one with 15 different vehicles when even a 5 year nfs title has atleast 40 or more.

    But personally i would also like to see a greater focus on more trims and facelifts on existing cars. Plus a vast selection of interior materials, colours, different radios and all the other little extras in a real car. The Pc platform is lacking a bit of racing games with good customizing options for cars lately. Also it would blend perfectly with the hc crash physics. If a car truly looks and feels like your “own“ then you wont drive with it like a complete idiot and crash it after seconds or minutes.

    About the critizing stuff: I havent read your post and since you deleted it i cant anymore. But good constructive Critic needs a form. If you dont follow that its sometimes hard to take it serious or read it as it was intendet. So maybe read a bit about how to make constructive criticism in the right way and next time others wont take it on a personal level.

    About that official Repository copyright issue in the last posts. The big difference between these Gta mods and the the Stuff in the Repository is that here it is hosted by the developers themself. As a company you simply cant host copyrighted stuff. Car manufacturers want expensive licensing fees and they're not stupid. When it is as easy as in drive to add mods via an official repository they smell money or an easy lawsuit in the air. Removing logos and brands on the repository or just providing a plattform for linking to another host as the forums seems to be the only legal way atm. IMHO a pretty great solution which hopefully works out further in the future.

    think of your favourite racing game. would that game be fun if it had 5 cars or so?

    thats the exact reason why devs are adding more cars.

    My favorite racing game is Rigs of Rods. It only had 4 cars. A Tatra Dakar rally thing, 2 buses, and some flatbed orange truck thing.

    Thats an addon map too lol.

    The game would have got old in less than 10 minutes if it had no mods. Hell BeamNG would likely not even exist if it wasn't for RoR mods.
