depends if you want the car to be driveable. if you want an object car(non moving/controllable) then yes. but if not, you could model the car but you still need the jbeam
Nice tutorial man! really appreciate this I was putting off making models for my level until I could watch something like this and know all the steps! worked like a charm, I must say well done. I have a question though is there any way of creating Levels of Details using sketch up? or is there a tutorial any one could point me in the direction of? or am I looking at getting my head around blender a bit more?
There sure is a way, Here is my tutorial video. hope this helps TUTORIAL-Sketchup-tutorial-for-LOD-and-Collision-meshes-(not-visible-mesh-collisions)
I had the same problem with my buildings I made with sketchup. Someone told me how to fix it, and it worked. He told me you must not group the object, otherwise it will be glitchy in Beamng. So I exploded my grouped objects in sketchup, and put it in beamng again, and then it worked 100% perfectly. Except the car gets stuck in the sidewalks.
Things to look for that cause you to get stuck are: Materials on both sides of the face. Make sure you only have a material on the white face not the grey face. (you can accidently texture the inside faces of your models if you try to texture a face that is inside a group that you are outside of) Faces not orientated the correct way. The part is in a group or a component. There was one time when none of the above applied and i still had a problem. I fixed it by drawing some more geometry on the face that wasn't colliding to divide it up. I hope this helps
Thanks! Now that you mention it, I did paint inside my creation. I will fix that later on though, because right now I just want to get my map big enough to release as a beta.
I have sketchup and to just check: It can be used to design drivable cars and not just ramps and objects in maps? If so, it will have the same collision properties as regular cars in game? If both are yes, great! I can't wait to get started.
