One interesting thing I've discovered about the WL-40 is that it has separate wiper parts. They're not animated (yet), but they might become animated in the future. Animated wipers are one of the more common feature requests, and we have had multiple instances of features being added to a new/remastered vehicle, then to the whole fleet. (Examples include: Covet with opening doors, animated shifters, and odometers; T-Series with mirrors; 800 Series with navigation.) So...it's possible, but probably won't be happening for a while. (The HT-55 doesn't have a separate wiper (but it is modeled), and the I-Series has had separate headlight wipers for almost 10 years, yet they haven't ever been animated.)
So... let's think about this. I think the hotfixes might add a few more bits and bobs for the HT-55 and WL-40. I can see additional buckets and attachments for the latter filtering out, and it does feel like a dust-suppression water tank for the HT-55 is a very strong possibility. --- Post updated --- So... let's think about this. So, a bit like how the Hopper had several content-adding hotfixes after its release? That might happen, tbh. Honestly, I feel like there's still a lot more mileage that could be gotten out of the WL-40 - various bucket types (such as hot slag or wood chip), more grabbers, rakes, snow blades, and even rail car couplers, among others. I doubt we'll get a fully exhaustive list of attachments, but let's just say that the WL-40 could end up being a "big D-Series/Stambecco/Hopper" in terms of versatility. I don't know how much more the HT-55 could get, though - maybe a water tank or a big trailer, like the 770G has in Snowrunner, but that's about it. Honestly, I don't think it really needs much more - I'm fine with it being a single- or dual-purpose machine. Most of the trucks have so many bodies, upfits, and/or frames already.
There is a config without a dump bed so I suspect it is open for new official stuff like the T-series or mods
Also the config's descriptions does says it was made for custom upfits so I feel we might get some more in a future update down the line.
I’m surprised they didn't add some of the stuff mentioned, like updates to the bus, and simplified traffic. I assume that will come in a hotfix or 0.39
To be fair, the second part of the file system upgrade didn't happen in 0.38 (or at least, wasn't completed). (EDIT: It was finished, as Stenyak mentions in a post below this.) James also mentioned in the career mode thread that they had to sprint to finish the career mode changes a month early. A fair bit had to get cut to make it a workable update in time for the holidays. I'm not sure if there'll be a "0.38.x" minor content update, like with 0.5.1, 0.18.3, and 0.24.1 (which was far from minor), but I wouldn't be surprised. (The second/third part of the file system upgrade won't be out until at least 0.39, that's for sure.)
Filesystem stuff was fully shipped. Cloud system was also fully shipped, but enabled only for SteamDeck users for now. We'll progressively enable for other users during Q1 2026, once we've confirmed no major issues.
Oh, okay, that makes sense. I had it in my head that that was going to be finished in January/February of next year, since you mentioned that as a possibility in previous posts. But yes, congrats on finishing that - genuinely impressive to be receiving more content with a smaller file size.
You know what the talk of more heavy machinery makes me want? A LARC LX. Spoiler: LARC LX Who need bridges when you have a ferry that can drive up onto land? It could reuse one of the belasco diesels, because IRL it was powered with 4 Detroit Diesels, one dedicated to each wheel (with some gearbox shenanigans to twin the engines off for powering two propellers in the water.) So, nothing exotic to record sounds for. And it carried shipping containers at times, so gives us a "ship" to load at ports so we can really practice our intermodal skills. So, upsides: Nothing exotic about the engines Large watercraft Cool Could probably share tires with the HT-55 No need to give the HT-55 vehicle/container/non-rock transport capability, the LARC has it handled. Then both cool and difficult: Unique engine layout is cool but complex Swappable 2- and 4-wheel steering Twin fuel tanks, one for the port engines and one for the starboard engines The engines all are started with compressed air I don't think it has any suspension? Onboard tire inflate/deflate system The HT-55 was already fairly large, this is larger. Downsides: Does Beam even support having 4 independent engines on one vehicle? Water propellers aren't beam's strong suit. Would probably show off how jank water can be. Building off that, I think the cargo deck is below the waterline, and beam doesn't have water occlusion last I checked. It might not be buoyant with the cargo ramp open, and volumetric buoyancy of open topped vessels is also not one of beam's strengths.
Seems you are confusing the user folder work I was involved with (new userfolder location + cloud sync support), versus the install folder work that my colleagues worked on (reduction in install size). They are separate things, and both are finished and shipped
I don't know if this is the post you're referring to, but it does reveal some interesting possibilities: We just got some industrial machines, we already have parts of a tractor, we have a few boat and plane models (including a ferry), and there's a railroad on WCA. I've said in the past couple days that the devs could be going back to regular cars after 0.38, but they probably won't (or at least, not as much as some people would want them to). Spring updates are safe bets for more "normal" vehicles, but we might get a baggage tractor in 0.41. It would be quite funny if the T-Series/semi-trailer updates last year were all to make a tiny suitcase train a virtual reality. To be fair, you're likely right about the modern pickup truck. However, I've always been a bit back-and-forth about a modern pickup truck being in the game - it's by far one of the most commonly requested vehicle types for the game, and we already have some suitable engines for it (Bastion V6 and V8s). But it would probably be one of the most complex vehicles to maintain (if not the most), having both multiple frames and modern electronics, and we already have the D-Series and Roamer. The current roster shows that the devs don't tend to mix multiple frames and modern tech. All the post-2005 vehicles have only one or two body styles/frames, and every body-on-frame utility truck/van/SUV starts their production before 2005 (with only the Stambecco and H-Series going past that date). As for a city car, I think there's space in the roster for a modern one (or even two). The modern Fiat 500 isn't much bigger than the Piccolina, and the Smart Fortwo is shorter than the Wigeon. The Canadian Dynasty IT's also about as long as the Piccolina. The modern Citroen Ami is both shorter and narrower than the Wigeon, while weighing less (and, being electric, it could become our first all-new electric car (and the first EV in almost six years)). I think something like the Squad Solar (2m long, 1.2m wide) would be a wee bit too small to be useful. Another option is the Think City - about as long as the Pigeon, produced in Norway and the US, and decently heavy (1,038 kg). There are also several small Chinese EVs to choose from for inspiration. Alternatively, a golf cart could work as a "simple, cheap EV". Right, makes sense. Great job to y'all on completing this big project.
