BeamNG.Skibidi? Now the brainrot has gotten to BeamNG devs. Do the devs watch Skibidi Toilet? I just invited it in didn't I, I'm sorry.
(I'm aware this was edited, but this prompted me to figure out if this could actually happen, based on previous releases.) I feel like the devs have the D/H/Roamer as their "modern" pickup truck/van/SUV, and the Nine as their "classic" pickup truck/van. Certain brands also tend to get certain types of vehicles more often - while I don't think that Bruckell wouldn't be making trucks anymore in-universe, they're more likely to get cars than trucks in the official roster. The devs generally tend to try to fill gaps in the vehicle list that would be relatively easy to fill by giving old cars new engines, facelifts, or body styles. If you expand this across the entire roster, most vehicle categories tend to have at least two vehicles or two variants of a vehicle ("classic" and "modern"): -US pickup truck: Nine (classic), D-Series (modern) -US van: Nine (classic), H-Series (modern) -Body-on-frame SUV: Hopper ("classic"), Charro/Roamer ("modern") -Crossover: LeGran Campagne (classic), Tograc (modern) -Mid-engine Italian supercar: Bolide (classic), Scintilla (modern) -Japanese mid-size saloon: '88 Pessima (classic), '96 Pessima (modern) -Japanese compact saloon: Miramar (classic), Sunburst (modern) (I'm aware that technically, the Miramar would've been a mid-size when it released IRL, but it's very light and small compared to the Pessimas) -German saloon: I-Series (classic), 800 Series (modern) -Estate: LeGran (classic), 800 Series (modern) -US mid-size saloon: Nine (classic), LeGran ("modern") -US full-size saloon: Bluebuck (classic), Grand Marshal ("modern") -ATV: Wydra ("classic"), Aurata (modern) (the first ATVs from the '60s were similar to the Wydra) -Japanese mid/rear-engined sports hatch/shooting brake: Covet MR (classic), SBR4 (modern) -FR sports coupe: BX (classic), K-Series (modern) -Compact hatchback: Covet (classic), Vivace (modern) -Large US coupe: Moonhawk (classic), Wendover ("modern") -Large US "luxury" saloon: Burnside (classic), Bastion (modern) (I'm aware the Bastion isn't really as upscale as the Burnside for their time periods) -Large conventional truck (Class 5-8): T-Series (classic), MD-Series ("modern") -Rock crawler: Hopper Crawler (classic), Rockbouncer (modern) -Pre-runner/trophy truck: D-Series Runner/Crawler (classic), Dunekicker (modern) -Muscle coupe: Nine (classic), Barstow ("modern") The only current categories this doesn't really work with are European city car (Vivace is a bit too big, IMO), cab-over semi (that would be a good place for a Euro semi to slot into), bus, roadster (maybe the targa Civettas fill that?), and kei truck/car. The Stambecco/Lansdale/Autobuggy were just given newer versions to fill the classic/modern versions of their categories. This would explain why we didn't get an estate for the '96 Pessima remaster, or a coupe version of the Bastion, or a saloon version of the Covet or Wendover, or a Multipla-esque version of the Piccolina, or a four-door Hopper, or any number of missing body styles for the vehicles we have in-game. Why bother having more body styles for a vehicle when you could have that in another era for a different brand (most of the time) to flesh out their lineup? That would also explain why the Nine has so many body styles - to more easily fill the gaps in the roster for the "classic" versions of various types of vehicles. That means that we might not be seeing a 2020s US pickup truck (at least, not anytime soon), as the devs probably consider the D-Series to be modern enough. (That choice likely was solidified with the 1998-2003 facelift in 0.21.) I hope we're getting more body styles for the Moonhawk when that gets remastered, and it's certainly more likely than it would've been 7 years ago. But based on previous remasters, that will probably stay coupe-only to be a counter to the Wendover (which probably also will stay coupe-only because of the Grand Marshal). It's a bit of a shame that this seems to be the case, but it is an understandable way to efficiently cover various types of vehicles and eras and fill out the brands. I would love to be wrong about this, but this isn't like the release date for the holiday update - this is a multi-year-long dev strategy which they haven't shown much evidence of budging from.
I read the whole thing, and you are right, but, here's one thing you didn't mention, a classic bus and modern bus, but then again, that could be something that a newer version of the DT40L could fill whenever a Wentward remaster happens.
I highlighted that discrepancy here: And I don't know if we'll get a modern bus, but we could get a different type of bus with the MD-Series. That certainly would make sense to me.
Yes, I think the Bluebuck has aged fairly well. But in a remaster, I hope that we can get more stylish taillights instead of 2 minuscule dots that are barely visible. Also, you know those cars from the 10s and 20s that had the crank to turn them on? Do you think the devs would be able to make one?
That's a'ight - I kinda shoved that in there in the middle of a long-ass sentence. But my previous massive post has gotten me thinking that the reasons I stated in that post for various content omissions are probably why the vast majority of the vehicles from the concept list were scrapped (at least in their proposed forms), and instead splitting up aspects of the vehicles to cover more eras and brands: -Bruckell Albatross: Too close to the Moonhawk in size, era, and body style -'69 Bruckell Moonhawk: Too close to the Barstow and Moonhawk in size, era, and body style (I'm aware that the '69 Moonhawk would've been a fair bit different from the Barstow, but probably wasn't different enough for the devs to keep it on the cards) -Bruckell Chivala: No official description for it, but probably got replaced by the Lansdale to add a car for Soliad -Bruckell Scarborough: Too close to the LeGran, got replaced by the facelift LeGran -Unnamed '80s Bruckell estate: Became the LeGran estate -Bruckell Tiare: No official description for it, either, but probably got replaced by the Nine? -Charmand 1304 B: Too close to the Covet in size, era, and body style (the crazy Group B variant got taken by the Covet MR, while the French origin got taken by the Vivace) -Civetta Fulmine: I dunno why - maybe it got replaced by the K-Series/Scintilla? -Gavril/Bruckell Beaufort: Likely too close to the Grand Marshal and Bluebuck, and got replaced by the Bastion to give Bruckell more cars -Gavril Blackstone: Possibly replaced by the D-Series Charro? -Gavril Bussard: Might've been replaced by the Scintilla, coupe BX, and/or K-Series -2014 Gavril Roamer: Replaced by facelift Roamer and Tograc -2014 Covet: Replaced with Vivace -1992-1995 Pessima: Too close to the '88 and '96 Pessimas, probably replaced with the facelift LeGran -Jargl DT825: Might have been replaced with the DT40L? Would make sense for a mostly US-based game to have a North American-built bus. -Jargl Squit: Probably replaced by the Wigeon? -Soliad Palisade: Maybe replaced with the coupe Wendover, the Bastion, and/or the K-Series. The only vehicle that got added from the concept list is the Hopper, purely because it was something really significant that the game was lacking - a "classic"-style SUV, like Jeeps and Land Rovers, to compliment the more "modern"-style Roamer. I'm mostly going off of this thread for inspiration on what the concept cars could have been. Larger tail lights have happened before for remasters (see: Bolide), so maybe we'll see something like that for the remastered Bluebuck. It's possible we might see a really old car at some point, but that would likely require a lot of work for a vehicle with relatively niche appeal. (A fair bit less work now that the Nine exists, and more likely now that the SPs and Wydra exist, but still.) I feel like the late-1920s is about as old as we're gonna see for a while, until more vehicle niches are filled.
Honestly I do think a modern pickup will come in the near future. It is one of the few top community requests left, with all the others having went in game in the last couple of years (COE semi, modern supercar, pre-war car, minivan, LD Charger counterpart) and assuming it would be a Bruckell we already have 3 of the engines the platform would need.
Yeah, I agree that a modern pickup truck is certainly more likely than, say, another '80s US mid-size sedan or '90s Japanese mid-size sedan - it's just that, unlike all those other top community requests, it would be a lot of work (certainly to get to the level of the D-Series) and something that's kinda already filled by the facelift D-Series. (Not to say that it would be exactly like the D-Series, but it wouldn't be as distinct from the rest of the roster as the Lansdale, Scintilla, TC8x, Bastion, and Nine.) And as I mentioned in this post, the devs tend to have themes for each year of updates, and a modern pickup truck wouldn't really fit in with drag-racing, rallying, or classic cars. Maybe for 2026 or 2027, we could see a modern Bruckell pickup truck? We did get a classic/modern flip-flop in 2018-19 and 2019-20 (Picco/Bluebuck, FCV and facelift D-Series/Roamer), so I don't see why that couldn't happen again.
If we do, we have to see one of those body swaps that people do with the early 70s F-150s and modern Rangers
Amidst all the very thoughtful and well written replies here, I have 2 small questions. Why don't we have any ultra luxury cars like Rolls Royce or Bently? Is it a category we believe BeamNG should invest the time bringing into the game? This isn't the suggestions thread but while we're on the topic of how BeamNG goes about filling car niches I thought it would be appropriate to ask
I would imagine it's because luxury cars (at least a modern one) means more technology which means more features the devs have to code. But they do always like their new vehicles to come with new features, so it could be in line somewhere. Personally, I'd think like a Beam-verse version of a '70s-'90s Rolls-Royce would fit right in, and not be too expensive for career mode either (to buy that is. Maintenance would be another story lol)
