I'm surprised at the complete and utter lack of speculation about the side-by-side. what variants do we think they might add? will there be a utility version? a crew cab variant? facelifts? modifications for these have become insane in recent years, some people have taken to converting LS3s or Hellcat V8s into them: and things like this monstrosity exist: and most importantly, what brand will it be? FPU? Hirochi? something Canadian?
I would guess that its going to be FPU maybe? to extend the FPU brand, so it has 2 vehicles like the SP, and real life brands that make cars like wydra also seem to make side by sides and such vehicles. I wonder if we will get abomination configs, like this f1 inspired UTV
May be worth pasting this from Discord to aid in the SxS discussion. I wrote this a week ago: “Just rode in a side by side (Polaris Turbo R) for the first time and feel hyped enough to write this. Sporty models can kick it upwards of +200hp but many range from 50-100hp for utility usage and rough trail cruising, many have rwd+awd and are belt driven (no gear shifting similar to a go-kart), low range and high range gear modes are usually both features, their mass ranges from 1,300lbs-2,000lbs (600kg-900kg), high end models can have suspension tuned by the dial of a knob (some even have active/reactive suspensions), ride-height is adjustable on many models, utility oriented SxSs typically have towing features, and some have an electrically driven winch. Many boast about lights, GPS units, and other techie features facilitated with getting an off-road toy. As for speculation, I imagine inspiration will be taken from many of these features. Again, I think winches will be part of this update since tdev’s mention of introducing ropes didn’t make it to 0.29. No mention of deformable terrain for a while. Dirt appearing on vehicles had already been acknowledged as being highly time consumptuous and therefore likely isn’t being considered for the works in the upcoming updates. The gooseneck does indicate there will be at least mild modifications to the trucks. The ball being in the center of the bed is usual something that can be done after-market. So possibly a customization feature will be available as well as a Beam variant. Alright, all speculationed out at the moment.”
My take is that it will be a new brand and following the line of content we´ve received in the last couple updates i think we can expect some really funny offroad capabilities with this thing. Of course it would be a absolute no brainer to make handy compact track tool out of it so thats gonna be on board too im sure. In any event it will be thrilling to drive in different enviroments and im glad its coming to the game finally!
i think its probably an fpu or sandstorm performance the teaser with the gooseneck showed it but it was blocked by the sun from that image it looks to be less utility so i would have to say it a sandstorm performance if there were 2 of them and one was more like the mahindra roxor or the john deere gator then it would possibly be an fpu because it seems they make utility vehicles the thing about people swapping engines from other cars into it we might be able to see a bastion engine in it because it seems the devs are warming up to the idea of official engine swap like with the pigeon and widgeon or the gambler cars if not the bastion engine i could see them allowing us to put an ibishu engine in it if it doesnt have one becuase this is most likely to be a sandstorm performance and i dont think they build their engines in house
For reference, removing everything from a Wigeon (minus body) with 36hp, CVT, and a neutral drop gives a 0-60 of 7.5s
Tbh, I don't know much about Side-by-Sides (didn't even know they're called like that, I've only been knowing them as ATVs), but I'm really excited to see this kind of car in BeamNG. "V8 everything" can certainly apply to this vehicle too, with the most obvious choices being the Gavril V8s due to their relatively small overall dimensions, their simplicity and their broad use (remember, the Dark Owl Civetta Scintilla uses the Gavril 5.5 and the SP Rockbasher uses the 4.5, along with the venerable 6.9), although I can't ever turn a Bolide V8 swap down, Twin-Turbo or not! Realistically, though, such a vehicle can mainly get by with a small-displacement engine so, regarding to European and Asian BeamNG car companies, we're spoilt for choice here. Any small engine can be taken into consideration, from the 550cc Ibishu I3 to the modern small turbocharged engines of today. As for the American BeamNG car companies, we only have the Bruckell 2.2/2.5 I4s and they aren't exactly powerhouses of engines. I mean, from the same time period, the Ibishu 1.3 DOHC I4 of the PWigeon and the 1.5 DOHC I4 of the Covet have both these Bruckell engines in the dust from the get-go while being smaller and, of course, lighter. But if the engine this car is gonna have is a) modern, b) small, c) turbocharged and d) American, I think we may see that new engine be used somewhere else too. Say, for the base version of a modern Pony Car (you see where I'm going).
2024 Bruckell Moonhawk with a 1.2 turbo I3 producing 98 hp Jokes aside, a name that i (who knows nothing about SXS) see popping out often is Polaris, looking at the RZR lineup they use a 1.0 2-cyl engine both N/A or turbo in various power levels, with the top version using instead a 2.0 4-cyl engine. I can totally see the devs reusing Ibishu engines (or maybe the Wydra engine) but i definitely wouldn't mind seeing a base 2-cyl version
Well, the Moonhawk was a coupé, the Bastion is a sedan, i know brands lately like to reuse older names for new, larger cars that barely resemble the originals, but it doesn't have to be like that in the BeamNG universe
And FWD! Imagine that! Hahahaha! A 2-cylinder is a great layout but it also means a new and special sound has to be made for it. Ibishu, Cherrier and ETK 2.0 I4s are perfect for some fast versions of the ATV but don't discard the legendary Cherrier 2.5 I5! Yep, it's the Mustang I was referring to! The dev who designed the Barstow said it's about the same size as the '71 Mustang, so a modern Barstow with neoretro lines, a base Turbo I4 and a Quad-Cam V8 (plus an Inline-6 in between, just for making the difference and having a modern I6 to be larger than 3 liters) would be ace!
I do not believe the 0-60 time. It either has way more hp or you suck at counting. Anyways, side-by-side, amirite?
