No, there’s no 32bit hardware that can handle BeamNG. Latest desktop CPUs that are 32bit are from 2002, well technically there are newer models but not powerful enough to run BeamNG anyway. Practically it’s an issue for 0.5% of users that have outdated 32bit software, but if they run BeamNG, they must have 64bit hardware so it’s up to and upgrade of OS. Edit: kinda Ninja’d by a minute hah
I jumped over here as fast as possible when I saw the new post about the removal of 32 bit support wondering if the update dropped. It's easy to tell using the speculation thread, you don't even have to go to the most recent page. If the max amount of pages is 30 more than the day before, chances are the update dropped
They said "With the release of the 0.25 32bit will be deprecated" This makes me think 0.25 is almost done.
I see two scenarios. Either they posted this in time before 0.25 so that ppl wont get surprised about the 32bit deprecation. OR they rushed the info now if the release is this week. Both plausible tbh, its things like this that can be forgotten working with something that is obvuous within the companys 'walls' but not at all obvious on the outside.
To help things out, 32-bit CPUs started to fall out of fashion around 2007, when the Core 2 line was released by Intel. Given that a Core 2 Duo barely loads the game, it's safe to assume that only a few people will be affected (for example, a 2006 Polycarbonate Intel iMac would be unable to run Beam, but a 2009 Thick Unibody iMac would (with great difficulty
The first scenario is for preparing the ground by informing us about the unavailability in the 32bit OSs, because it's better when we check by ourselves what OS our systems have than ask the classic "My GaMe DaZn'T UpDaTe, AnSwEr Me WhY pLz?????". The second scenario isn't as possible because we first have to see a Teaser for the upcoming content update and, also, based on the info the Devs told us about prolonging the periods between the Updates for increasing the game testing procedures, the Team also has to iron out the imperfections.
With the discontinuation of 32bit systems, I feel sorry for the people who post 0.5 FPS videos to the subreddit. Seriously tho, hopefully that makes the devs' lifes a bit easier.
I know this isn't all the players that own BeamNG, but the SteamCharts all time high of players for Beam (playing at the same time) is 14,251 (as of posting this). 0.5% of that is 71. So theoretically with entirely flaud math, that's a number, that probably means something.
I mean, it's been five months, which would be about the right length for a prolonged development period. I'd be surprised if it isn't out by the end of next month, personally.
Tbh yes, five months is already a prolonged period by the standards of the past 3 or 4 years (during which the updates dropped every 4 months) in this game but I don't really mind. If the prolonged time periods between the updates mean the updates are gonna be even higher quality than now (thanks in part to the exclusive focusing on the 64bit OSs), then so be it!
You'd probably prefer to look at the total ammount of players, instead. Playertracker.net reports a total estimated player count of 1.9 Million. If we assume this number to be correct, that means that equals out to about 9,500 players.
That 32 bit discontinued announcement makes me almost 100% sure the update is near. They wouldn’t announce it if the update was far to keep the 32-bit player base playing for some time, but the update isn’t a day away so 32-bit players have some early notice. I bet this week.
