I do think it would be cooler if the 1985 D-series had square lights instead of rectangular lights, but I'm still grateful for it.
Also, the older fascia still uses the same panel shape as the newer one, which while easier to implement is also contributing to the strange looks.
I'm not entirely certain what this sentence is trying to say - nobody has forgotten the mod, least of all me. If you're trying to say that a mod featuring parts for pickup trucks 1975-1980 exists and is a very good thing, then I agree with you wholeheartedly. But if you're trying to use that to argue that there is no merit to providing feedback on the new de-facelift, then I am going to have to respectfully disagree with you. Part of the reason that the development team provides these early teasers is for the purpose of gathering feedback, however large or small. Recently, the dev team posted on Instagram. I've quoted it here just in case I've somehow bungled the link (emphasis mine): If that isn't a call for feedback on the new design, then I don't know what is. And they seem to be using some of it, given the sudden addition of the mirrors today. I'd like to make a point in advance of any argument that those had already been planned: Had the dev team been planning those mirrors all along, they could have easily delayed the reveal of the pre-facelift one more day until they were ready. Reading back over the last five pages or so carefully, nobody is suggesting an entirely new cab as far as I can tell. There are some calls for doors to be revised, but we might see that die down a little now that the revised version of the mirrors has been revealed. Revising certain parts of the trim to be chrome/stainless steel instead of rubber/plastic is a matter of creating a slightly tweaked version of the existing normal and specular maps -, and can be counted as a "little thing" in the same way calling for chrome mirrors can be. On the subject of the revised fascia / splitting the facelift into three generations, I'm going to continue to make the case for that. The changes I'm proposing aren't exactly radical - I was simply proposing four (now three) new parts, plus the revision of one more: a new specular map for Chrome trim, a new additional grille, and a new additional valance, plus new mirrors (in game as of this post) and a very slightly revised bumper. At bare minimum, I'm calling for an additional valance and a slight revision of the currently planned 1985 bumper. Two or three parts is very reasonable for the creation of another mild facelift, which would add a lot of extra customisability and gameplay value. I'm going to explain my reasoning for why I think this mild facelift is necessary. While the development team does have a certain amount of artistic license when designing official vehicles (that is to say, no official vehicle is a direct copy of any real-life vehicle), the team does make very strong efforts to ensure that BeamNG's vehicles share the same technical features, design elements, and styling for the archetype and era of vehicles that they are designed to be representative of. BeamNG cars are not real, but the team usually takes great pains to ensure that they are firmly grounded in reality, mechanically and otherwise. At this stage, I'd really like @Stoat Muldoon to give serious consideration to releasing the existing version of the facelift as the 1988+ D-series for that reason. The way the valence bulges out is not a design feature found on any American trucks from 1985 - though it is period-correct for the 1988 or 1989 model year. I'll be perfectly happy to accept the currently planned version of the D-series de-facelift as a 1988 truck. However, because I see that they originally intended to release a 1985 truck, I wanted to provide honest, good-faith feedback by raising this point, and providing what I see as a good compromise that will provide some extra realism, as well as a few more bits of gameplay value (especially when career mode is eventually released), while still being mindful of the amount of work that the dev team needs to do. I will be opening a private conversation with you shortly so as not to drag the thread any further off-topic than it already has been by this subject.
Some of ya'll are so critical & ungrateful. You guys remember, you're getting this shit for free right?
Some time ago i said we have too many d series configs... well forget that I guess most of them are placeholders for the pre facelift models!? I love it, Stoat!
I'll chime in and say that we do need the older V8s, but with fuel injection, in the '85 D-Series. I think we should have the 291, 353, a ~400 ci high-stroke, torque-optimized engine, and a 440-460 ci big-block engine, essentially a bigger version of the 423.
What I would personally love to see one day, would be a 2020/2021 ETK based on the BMW 7/8 series, with configurations resembling the M760Li / M850i / M8 Competition, also a 5-series sedan equivalent would be awesome. I think the body style mod for the ETK 800 should be updated as it gave so much more variety to the car
https://www.beamng.com/threads/vehicle-suggestions-see-first-post.79/ I don't want to sound like a backseat moderator but please don't start interjecting your off-topic suggestions in this thread when we're discussing a much more important topic. Thank you.
I wouldn't say giving constructive feedback and discussion is ungrateful. If we didn't care about the game then we wouldn't be saying anything. We aren't saying the work already put in was bad, just suggesting additional things to make it more like what it's supposed to be. While I'm at it, why are people drawing the line at new doors? The Hopper has like 4 door options (full, half, and 2 aftermarket ones), why can't the D-Series get options here too?
Keep in mind that what you see in the pics may not be final. The devs post those pics because they want to hear what people think so they can improve on it, which is what we were doing. It may be subject to change when the update is released, but for now let's chill out (read a book, drink some tea, etc) and be patient.
All right all right let's calm down now. Things go downhill when conversation stops and yelling begins.
