First off, I'm not sure whether to put this in mod support or not, but here it is. I'm working on a model for a car that I'm making (in SketchUp, don't judge me), and the model is basically complete, so I saved it as a .dae and imported it into Blender for a test run, and it acted a little odd, Blender decided to see multiple parts of the model separately, but I selected all of them and CTRL+J'd them. (Note, I also cross braced the sides afterwards to see if that was the problem, but it still fails just as hard.) Seems like it's fixed, minus a few out of place faces, but I can fix those after I see if it works. So I export it as JBeam and plop it in my mod's folder. I try to load it up and it just... I don't even know how to describe it. It's like none of the faces are connected to each other. I can grab the nodes and pull it apart without issue. A few are connected, but never more than a couple faces at a time. I would just say it's because I didn't fully crossbrace them, but the factt hat they're not even connected makes me think that that's not the problem. EDIT: Okay, I'm even more confused. I found out today that if i go into edit mode (After CTRL-J) and select the object, I can move the wireframe(?) away from the faces, and the faces still have vertices and edges and stuff, but they seem to separate like how they are when I put it into a jbeam. EDIT2: YES! The wireframe thing solved it. I don't know what was wrong with it, and frankly I don't care. It loaded into beamng AND IT WAS ONE PART. JUST ONE. NOT A SCRAP HEAP. I'M SO HAPPY.
I've done extremely limited Sketchup to BeamNG but making sure there are no reverse faces and the model is exploded in Sketchup before export seems mandatory. Doullpepper posted a Blender fix for erratic meshes if I recall.
I checked for all the reversed faces and correct all the ones I could find. It's also been exploded. I've tried doing it well it was a component or a group and I get an ABSOLUTELY HUGE thing in game. Like humongous. It would cover the skycurves(?) in gridmap. Can you find the mesh thing you're talking about? I looked up anything with blender in it posted by him and nothing of the sort came up. I'll see if I can look up the advice on the Blender fix. I've only done static buildings in Sketchup so the vehicle/jbeam aspect of this is totally alien to me. Someone with more experience will eventually chime in on this I'm sure.

That should help a bit, I did find a few lonely nodes lying in the scrap heap. I might have to just bite the bullet and figure out how to model in Blender.
I totally understand, and it is possible, just really convoluted. I'd try explaining it, but I like just woke up.
I am wondering, are you trying to export the full mesh as a jbeam? As far as I know there is no automated tool that can generate you a proper jbeam for a mesh. The Blender jbeam export plugin is meant to help you visualize the jbeam rather than do the work for you.
I said that wrong, I did do that a few times, then I took the nodes and beams and put them in the wiki's jbeam thing. And where are these from? All I'm saying is that you cannot "generate" the content of a jbeam file. You'll have to hand place nodes and beams, there's no way around that. Some tools can help you do that (like the NB Editor here on the forums, or that blender plugin), but with all solutions you still need to hand place things. There's no universal "export mesh as jbeam" thing, since that cannot work by design. Not sure if this is the case here, just making sure I got things correctly
I did use the exported jbeams, they seem to be working fine. And there's a NB editor here? I didn't know that. Well i guess technically it "works" for a rather simple shape like that, but I'd recommend you not getting used to that workflow. Can you link me to the wiki article you are mentioning?
Sure Introduction_to_Vehicle_Creation I'll trynot to, I did add a few beams and such in notepad++, which is actually quite fun, weirdly.
I can only give my recommendation to give Blender a chance, most important step is to forget the mouse, what I mean by that is that in Blender you use only keyboard shortcuts, mouse is used after giving keyboard command, but mouse is not used same way as with other programs and menus etc. are there only for some of the functions, modeling itself is done mostly with keyboard commands and then adjusting position with mouse. Also right mouse button is used more than left, where as in normal programs you use left mouse button, this is another thing one has to give up with Blender. Blender cheat sheet is a must and some basic modelling tutorial of house or something very simple, which is just to get finger memory for the keys. Best thing ever is keypad dot, always use it after selecting vertex, edge etc, because otherwise Blender is not letting you see quite so well. My memory rule is: w for weld (really it is called merge), e for extrude, f makes a face, xyz locks for axes. I don't really use s which is scale, it is handy too, but I use mostly e and w. n for showing position coordinates, but I think you need that only once at the beginning. I have played with 3DS, first time sometime at 90's, then I have played with Sketchup and now with a Blender, Blender is faster and nicer to use after one adapts to it, that is why I recommend to give it a chance, just try to ignore how annoyingly differently everything works, do simple absolute beginner tutorial to get the keys needed and after short while it feels quite natural while Sketchup and to some extend even 3DS feels very slow, but yeah, it is sometimes so annoying.
