A power steering failure wouldn't be easy on an experienced driver either. I've had to coast my car in, engine off, at least twice in the past couple weeks, once because I had a lot less gas left than I thought and once because I was seeing zero oil pressure. It is absolutely not easy - takes quite a bit of strength to turn the wheel and then it doesn't want to self-center.
My friends dad friend was driving his truck around a corner when the power steering failed. He had to use a lot of strength to turn the wheel, then the power steering came back on. He flipped his truck multiple times off the road. I heard this story when our dads were talking. It makes me want to have a car without power steering, less things to fail.
