I can only agree, played it for about 30min now and for now I am really suprised, nice handling, looks great and even though it's early acess, I haven't encountered a single bug or glitch yet. Just very well done! Love it already
This is the cheapest it'll be. They've confirmed it'll increase in price towards a normal game price.
Got Gran Turismo 4 working on my PC (it's an absolute pain in the ass). Even got this sweet shader that really makes the game pop (but forgot to put it on while recording this orz) Even with the resolution cranked up this game is a blurry mess wwwwww Still fun though. Physics feel real enough to me, man. I just wanna drive cars. For those of you who require their sims to be max realistic, I give you this Assetto Corsa clip I recorded recently: Body roll for daaaaaays. God I love driving crappy civilian cars at high speed. So much shaking and body roll and it just feels so damn fun to see the whole car just dive into the corner. I really would love to see a PC sim that focused on passenger cars instead of race cars.
That moment when you finally figure out the game's handling characteristics and it graces you with a fast stage It's a glorious moment. I love the new DIRT. And somewhat hope to see something like this come from BeamNG.drive. That audio engineering coupled with BeamNG's damage and physics should make for brutal and immersive gameplay. Especially when we have some roads that are designed for rally. But no... I thoroughly enjoyed this particular run on this stage :3
This game is amazing. (GTX 970 @ Ultra 70-90fps) (DiRT Rally) (imported from here) (imported from here) (imported from here) (imported from here) (imported from here)
I bought it too, maybe as consolation for not letting myself buy GTA V To me, it's stuck in a weird zone between arcade and sim where part of me wants to just let go and have fun, while the other half sits there and goes "ah...that's not quite right". In particular it reminded me of an old game I played extensively called Rally Trophy (BugBears debut game). But that's just my intuition talking, there seems to be very little science out there to say what dirt or gravel should handle like.
I see where your coming from, but for me it seem more of a sim then an arcade game over all. I came into this game driving how I would on DiRT 3 and instantly went off the first corner and totaled my car. Imo, the gravel needs to be worked on just a little bit. Sliding around hairpins is quite difficult and e-break feels like it locks up all 4 wheels rather then just the rears. But overall I'm glad they did a early access and are listening to what the community thinks rather then just releasing what they think is right. What they have now is a very solid base and it most likely will improve from this point forward no problem. One thing I think that needs to be improved is damage, the cars can take quite some beating and still keep going. The only thing slowing it down immensely is a puncture, even more so when the tire goes off the rim. Although I'm sure it will be improved in the future. Let me know what you think. Also, made a video. (1080p60fps Ultra)
There's no TRUE rally game besides RBR. That's until DiRT Rally came out. Also the off-road racing sim is not in high demand such as rally. I would personally love to see a dirt track oval sim but there is none. Anywhere.
I'm glad someone noticed that . I also really like how long the dust cloud stays. It doesn't magically disappear like all the other dirt games. (imported from here)
Yeah, I keep hearing people say "the demand for an offroad racing sim isn't there" and I'm like what? How the hell would you not want to do something like this: Do people really just stick with what they like in real life when it comes to sims? Is no one interested in even trying out new disciplines? Smh
I noticed that and when proper volumetric? dust dispersion can be done it will be even more epic. I am curious what's with the pine trees in that level though, they seem built for movement and not static detail?
Is Dirt Rally revolutionary, is it a top level game rushed out for the sake of consumer stakes? (Hoping it is not a Battlefield:Hardline example) What is specially new about it? I can see it had great visuals, upgrades for vehicles, automotive title licensing, and drifting. Does it have realistic crash damage? What am I missing by not purchasing the game today? That co-driver is pretty cool. That would make multiplayer interesting for sure. Also Offroad on NES, I love that game.
It's just simply the best rally game I've ever owned. The crash damage is not graphically realistic, I don't like it. However the mechanical damage is great. It's plausible for anything up to a moderate crash. They need to work on their high speed impacts to sell them. The sound recording is fantastic, anything up to brake squeal. Finally, this is the first game where crashes sound right. It's not cinematic smashing noises, it's an actual metallic crunch. Probably taken from actual recordings of rally crashes, or they dropped cars off of cranes with a boom mic nearby. You can judge from a video, and this is a video of me doing well. I honestly suck at this game. Always spinning out and crashing. But you can see that I'm not going 100 million miles per hour and I'm not taking on corners at 45 degree angles anymore. Hell, I'm not even spending most of my time on the edge of the car's handling ability and using the full track for what it's worth. The game compells me to try and be cautious and back off that little bit because of the margin for error at higher speeds. I'm still constantly screwing up and destroying my car. It's actually very realistic. The difference between DiRT 3 and DiRT Rally is night and day. By the way, I decided to temporarily disable the forced cockpit views... and bumpers don't drag on the ground anymore, do they? Slight dissappoint, always thought the way they did that in the DiRT series looked good. Corners break away and the main body of the bumper drags on the ground till the whole thing falls off.
I would buy Dirt Rally instantly if my controller accommodated pressure sensitivity. I am going for Full Throttle Stig award if I ever get around to racing the BeamNG Top Gear Challenge out there. It is full throttle/brake for me or nothing. Thinking about it, my steering is quite horrid too. Dirt Rally the best ever? Even better than Halflife: Rally? I envision myself as the only player of that one.
