In my country there is smth simmilar and it's callled the "ŻW" (Żandarmeria Wojskowa) and it's sort of a military police so yes.
I always thougt it was weird when i saw carabinieri (carabinieri being military police) patrol cars patroling the streets of italy... in my country we also have military police called "vojaška policija" but you only see these patrol cars in the near vicinity of a military base or in it, very very rarely seen in public... (look at pic below)
