I just hope that beam doesn't become like the fivem community, with people like redneck mods charging £250+ for a car pack with like 10 cars inside and some (Imo shit) gimmick, or like sheepdog development who charges 45usd for the lowest effort fire vehicles to grace gta, I'm a bit off topic but you get my point, I don't want overpriced underdelivering mods basically, there's already a bunch of Facebook meshslap mods, I just don't want the forums to be like that, hopefully the beam team can agree to have an official marketplace to avoid third party sites.

(fr tho you paid how much for a car pack and you want to squeeze more money from me???)

    Everything balances itself.
Paid mods would not exist if there were no buyers.
There is a demand -> there will be a supply.

    Summary of this entire thread:
Paid mods are only okay if the price is reasonable and the mod is high quality. It is the modders free use of choice to make their mod free. Don't hate on modders that make paid mods. (Unless the mod sucks)

For me, a paid mod is like a dlc made by the community. If I pay for a car/maps, it need to be near dev quality and above all, it need to be continually updated and kept up to date with the game version and never ne abandoned. It also need to not cost too much cause with the multitude of mod that could be paid, even 4$ its would be really expansive to get them. I think mod pack (3 to 6 high quality car or map) for like 10$ or 15$ could be nice. Also the dev should make a new section on their site where we could buy mods directly on the beamng site (not gumroad ect.) and this section should be extremely moderated and each mod should be approuved by the dev and reviewed. It could limit scammer that would put a meshlap wth a stolen model for 5$. Also, each mod should pass a minimum quality standard imposed by the devs

This thread is far from a "shitshow", sure there have been disagreements but it's not an incoherent shouting match. People have been presenting their opinions in what I believe is a respectful way and they are being criticized calmly and with reason.

I believe that this thread is a showcase of the immaturity and entitledness of the BeamNG community, coming personally from a simracing background, I have no problems with paid mods, but the honestly daft opinions that are seen in this thread really show what the community of this game is about, if we exclusively talk about high quality mods, paid mods aren't about "control", or "greed", but rather the mod developer trying to get compensation for their painstaking work, they still don't owe you extra details on the development, not that you would understand most of it half the time, BeamNG mods are possibly the most complicated mods I've ever seen, and it's only natural that these skilled individuals would want compensation from their work, apart from the rare donations of benevolent individuals, thinking that this is a question of "control" or "greed" is rather absurd, and being divided upon this and thinking that all mods should remain free is downright disrespectful.

If we imagine this on something like the plethora of mesh slaps being sold for upwards of $10 with little effort put into them, the picture changes quite significantly, where it is much more of a question of greed and, honestly, making a quick buck off of people who don't know better.

Absolutely agree, infact trying to find paid mods is actually kinda hard, and people blow it out to be some sort of infection, there are like 5 or maybe 6 paid car mods on/advertised on the forum that I could find. let's be honest most people (including myself) cant even make a skin work for beamng so making a car with custom textures is just insane, coming from the fivem community where basically anyone with a license to zmodeler can fart out a car in a week and slap a price tag that is probably at least 10x the prices of cars on beamng, people should just be happy that the mods aren't more expensive.

On a different note, what's the general stance on paid cars being used in servers?
