Oh, absolutely. The T-Series really needs an update. I wonder if they're suggesting updates for it on the good ol' Update Speculation Thread.
Possibly more variations of aftermarket parts such as hood scoops and fender flares, but also new additions like roof scoops and headlight "eyelids".
Here's some parts that I think should be implemented in-game: Fuzzy Dice: They are a very common accessory that can be found in everything from sports cars to show cruisers and everything in-between. They can also be colorable as well. Besides, they are very cute too! Relocated mirrors for the Ibishu Hopper: Some Jeep enthusiasts like to take the doors off their Jeeps. However, since the mirrors are attached to the door, you still need to put mirrors on your Jeep to keep it road-legal, which makes this accessory mandatory. It would make sense for a vehicle like the Hopper. And last but not least: GOSH. DARN. FUEL. DOORS! I honestly can't believe the devs would overlook such an important feature of a car. Besides, how the heck are you supposed to put fuel in the car otherwise? Just cut a hole in the fuel tank? Without a fuel door, you wouldn't be able to put fuel in, which is what makes the car go! (I know somebody made a mod for this but I still think they should be officially implemented in-game. Also not sorry for the rant above. I just get a little carried away sometimes. )
I'd like functional time attack wings and splitters for cars that don't have them like the Covet or 200BX. As I found out, the GTRX Splitter creates so much downforce that only the complimentary wing can balance it out.
Well, if I may suggest my personal idea: https://www.beamng.com/threads/tograc-qe-offroad-parts-drive-mode.70463/
You are right to doubt that we overlooked this. We didn't. There are intentionally no fuel doors due to optimization reasons.
More body styles for all vehicles, roof racks, more aftermarket hubcaps, openable doors, hoods, etc. for all vehicles.
It's most likely to do with the textures. Both sides of the cars use the same textures, just mirrored. Adding a fuel door / petrol cap / whatever would make the car body asymmetrical and therefore wouldn't work with mirrored textures - meaning overall larger texture files. An example to look at would be Wreckfest, where some of the cars do have fuel doors and the cars' body textures are laid out similarly to how the skins in BeamNG are.
