the beta testing phase (as quoted here):

is going to a paid membership, after testing the mod is most likely to be sold but depending on the support and funds i receive i might release it for free too.

what you should do is after beta testing phase, make the mod free, then do an extra pack for the car that is paid, and add some cool things to it

 

Why not do what fastlane did with his nissan qashqai and just sell an expansion pack ?

 

If it's going to be fully paid at release you will need to remove the thread, as advertising paid real-world car mods isn't allowed on the forum.

 

This was originally planned but due to the high investment costs (mostly 3d model orders and software subscriptions) while developing this mod, the full release is going to be paid. HOWEVER, when the Beta phase happens to run very well (actually profitable and reviews/bug reports are being kept serious and constructive) the full release might also be free. Again, I am not sure about the actual release yet, it depends on the circumstances.

Might I ask you where this is properly quoted?
The rules allow for direct paid mod showcasing and advertising as long as all proper permissions and credentials are given and stated. For everything else the author of the thread (me in this case) is responsible and liable for any consequences regarding the thread.

 

From what I know, I think the only way you can get proper permission from Audi is to get a license for this mod from them, which will probably not happen because they don't want to see their cars crashed...
(and the only reasons other real life paid mods like this don't get taken down is because the companies don't care, except for the time when ferrari sued a ton of mod creators for making their cars)

 

I don’t need permission from Audi to sell this mod since i don’t sell a copyright protected file or assert but rather just a design, since the 3d model is from other sources where I have permission to use them in any desired way.
And even if that was not the case or different, the rules still state that the author of the thread is responsible for all assets of his mod. Which means I can do whatever I want, but incase of infringement, I am the one liable and responsible for that.

Lmao, the copium here about paid mods is hilarious. Get a job, you bought a game (assuming lmao) - you can afford a mod if you really want it, other than bitching and complaining when an author wants to sell the work they make, when a lot of other mods are free to use if you're too broke to spend $5.

Phaien, love the stuff you've made - I have zero complaints about you wanting to monetize your work. It is your right, and those who complain after this has been made clear from the outset are simply trying to stir up drama, or they are too broke to buy a mod for a quarter of the game's price (assuming they actually bought the game to begin with).

Just to put the church back in the middle of the village, I don't think people have an issue with this mod a being paid one. The problem here is this paid mod being branded Audi.

You actually need the permission from Audi. Sure, you sell a design but this design has the brand Audi in it and just for that, Audi can actually sue you for making money through unauthorized use of their brand. Besides, if Audi is petty enough, they could also sue BeamNG for allowing this to happen and I think it's safe to say the BeamNG team doesn't want the smoke from a big bad automotive brand. Hence why some people here are suggesting this mod could be taken down as a preventive measure.

If you want to reduce the risk of your mod being taken down, here is a few advices :

- If you want to keep the Audi brand on your mod, it might be best to make your mod free.
- if you want to keep your mod paid, it might be best to rebrand it under a fictionnal or lore friendly brand.

In the end this is your mod, so you're free to do what you want with it.

 

You can take as much responsibility as you want, the hoster of forums are responsible too, because they host the platform which was used to share the "illegal" product. And to the idiots here which think that paid mods are the problem and think that we are jobless because we complain about them, get yourself a bit into laws first please.

I understand your point, however while buying the 3d model from Turbosquid i bought the rights to the model (for commercial use) and the design trademarks that come within their policy.

 

Oh yeah, another oh so criminal paid mod. Can't wait for the author to get a cease and desist letter, just like a half of the world's modding community. Because all the car brands care so much. Except that one Italian brand, but they suck anyway.

Anyway, y'all need to realize that nobody forces you to pay for any mod. You can always ignore this one and play with tens of thousands of other cars in this game.

Are you sure about that? You only get the rights to the 3D model itself, as in the array of data, not the brand itself lol.

 

you might've bought the 3D model but the 3D model doesnt automatically come with the brand and naming rights - at the end of the day it doesnt matter if you got the model for free or if you paid for it, theres still the 4 rings on it, and you definitely didn't pay audi to use their branding

ja, du hast das urheberrecht, du hast das modell laut eigenen angaben legal erworben um es für kommerzielle zwecke zu nutzen, aber du hast deswegen nicht das markenrecht, das ist nochmal was separates
eine legale kommerzielle nutzung wäre hier, wenn die audi marke verschwinden würde und das auto einfach namenlos bleibt oder irgendein fiktiven namen bekommt, so wie das viele spieleentwickler machen z.B
was hier aber nicht vorliegt, damit liegt ein markenrechtsverstoß vor

diese ganzen modland modder aus russland die wirst du anwältlich nicht erreichen können, ist klar, deswegen passiert denen nichts, aber dich erreicht man schon einfacher wenns sein muss
hier gehts nicht darum dich oder deinen mod aus dem forum zu vertreiben, oder audi in den hintern zu kriechen, hier gehts darum zu vermeiden, dass du oder beamNG als forum-betreiber rechtliche konsequenzen tragen müssen, damit der mod weiterhin bleiben darf

wenn du unbedingt den mod auf dem forum mit dem audi logo behalten möchtest, was mir ehrlich gesagt lieber wäre als dass der mod "lore-friendly" wird, dann ist die einzige legale option dass er gratis wird - als alternative kannst du ja immernoch z.b irgendein addon rausholen was sich leute für geld holen können so wie das z.b fastlane für den qashqai mod gemacht hat, wobei vom ding her so wie der das gemacht hat das auch rechtlich schwierig ist
