No, at the time GM was big enough to have separate projects for each. Despite being variations of the same theme, the American basic compacts (X-Body), senior compacts (Y-Body), big Vauxhalls, big Opels and Holdens were different cars. And there was a lot of variation among the same platform, like the "rope drive" transaxle Pontiac Tempest.
dang, you really live up to your name, don't you? i was more referring to the styling than mechanical components.
No the EJ-EH Holdens were essentially an opel, just seriously beefed up to take the powerful sixes and had a different glass house and roofline, and vastly nicer interiors
The EJ Holden was actually 15 HP less powerful than the Kapitan (which is claimed to be its ancestor), noticeably smaller and shorter-wheelbased, and the EH only had more power. The EJ was closer in size to the Opel Rekord. Also, a lot of the visual was changed.
remember that both companys are (Holden formerly (bunch of pirates GM is) owned) owned by GM, the EJ-EH holden was based off the an opel (not sure which one) however Gm had enough money to differentiate it enough from the original opel whilst still being mostly the same underneath, also the reason why the EJ was less powerful was because it was still using the anaemic grey engine from 1948 (only just more powerful than the '48 engine) because the newer red engine wasn't ready yet, but it was a worthwhile wait. And if you don't mind me asking, your not an Australian yourself right? how do you actually know what a Holden is, they are not really well know outside of here and were rebadged as chevs when exported to south Africa, about the only country they were exported to if im not mistaken
Thought you guys would like to see some Jbeam pics. progress today was complete jbeam rebuild of the radiator support because it was way too simplistic. Rad support and pretty much every other jbeam part (especially the unibody which is long overdue for a rebuild) will need varying degrees of work to make everything deform right and stop glitches like vibrating and moving/warping parts.
A crash pic. I finished the bumper support and the grille and headlights (although they are a bit wonky. I am probably going to finish up the initial jbeam of all main components by doing the trunk front and rear bumper and signal lights. After that I'll dive back into completely modelling the interior before jbeaming the rest and texturing at the end.
