Why would a multi million (possibly billion) dollar company care about using a name from a random indie game car simulation lol

    This.

In Italian, "Bolide" (from the Latin "Bolis-bolidis", in turn from the Greek "βολίς", "javelin", "projectile") is just a generic term to describe anything travelling as fast as a projectile, ending its run with an explosive impact - even just figuratively. Like meteors. Or, even, say, a soccer ball kick.

    Plus:
Not copyrighted. And, I believe such a generic concept can't be copyrighted at all, only patented for specific trades and markets.

It was ironic my man, as i explained a few posts down i thought it was pretty damn cool that they released a concept with the same name as a Beamng car, though id really like to see a Beamng 2021 version inspired by the Bugatti concept to close the circle

It won't care. But we will.
As I said- it's just interesting, even if it (probably) has no consequences for the game or for bugatti, legal or other.

IIRC copyright is limited to various works, not to trademarks - that's a whole different branch of intellectual property law.

Yes, that's right, my bad. We use "registrato" (and the ® symbol) for both copyright (©) and trademark (™), so I get them mixed up at times... but that's what I meant, "Bolide" is currently not a registered trademark, and even if it was, generic names can't be registered for universal usage, but rather only for specific trades or market. So, BeamNG might have registered "Bolide" once, but their trademark would be limited to computer games, whereas Bugatti would be applying the name to a completely different product (an actual car).

Remember guys... Bolide is just a word. It's a word in a different language other than english, but it is just a word. So basically the same kind of I'll fate would fall on Beam calling one of their cars the Bolt. Chevy has a Bolt... but I doubt they could do anything about it as "Bolt", again, it just a word. Same with Countach. They could probably get away with calling something Countach as well because again... it's just a word.

Techinically the Bolide came before the ''Bolide'' so I think the devs should be okay

Hmm yes, an automaker that makes 261mph autobahn slayers and made the fastest production car in 2005 is gonna care about a $25 game with a knock off 80s Ferrari with the same name. They have other things to worry about than early access Steam games.

I mean I kind of established that already, but you do you.

Which is exactly why we should stop commenting on this, because Bugatti has other things to worry about. Like being sold to Rimac.
