I've got a question. Is it still legal to use mods made before the declaration of modding made illegal?

I would imagine every mod is under the umbrella of this ban. Glad I didn't buy it now Because I was only interested in the modded side not the Shark Card To Win side.

If BeamNG didn't have modding, it wouldn't be a thing, (Or a very small thing, because a lot of the community, like me, revolves around modding). C* thinks that it should do the same thing, except modding is FAR more embedded in it's roots. Oh, well. Expect to see GTA in the bargain bin at your thrift soon soon!

Also, C* has won the "dumbest move of gaming history" award from me.

    Congrats, you freakin morons.

I solely bought GTA on the PC for police roleplay. Guess who's getting their games returned.

Listen. I have a regents today. But I have a feeling it'll be time for another super long post when I get back. I'm downright pissed, and I have a lot to say.

    !Long post warning!

When I got my PC, I downloaded GTA 5 from one website at first, because I mainly wanted to see the differences between the PS3 I previously played and PC version.
Then I read about mods and came to conclusion that I must buy the game for ability to use all mods, so I bought GTA 5 on Steam. Online was a nice addition, since I could transfer my old account from PS3.

Too soon enough I got annoyed of Online, because the loading times are way too long (even though GTA was on my SSD). Basically if I had 30 minutes to play in the evening, I couldn't even manage to play one game in that time, because of loading - I join a full room and leave it - loading. I want to join something - loading. Room is half empty - waiting.
I'm not even talking about Shark Cards - I know almost every company wants to milk players. I would be ok with playing for hours to get the money, but I kinda can't because of that.

Mods were a big thing for me, I didn't have many mods, but they worked well enough and changed the gameplay for good. Unfortunately my PC couldn't handle GTA with mods too well, I had considerable amounts of stuttering in more action-packed situations that wasn't there without mods.
Now I haven't played GTA 5 in months, because something from my mods became outdated and I didn't really want to get in updating and trouble finding and I decided to free up space on my SSD and deleted my mod folder. I recently thought about getting back in GTA with mods, but now I might as well delete GTA as well :/

Can you change the title, as it seems that this applies to IV as well.

Well... 3rd party software like OpenIV was required to open, manipulate and inject closed-source, proprietary file formats. Developing software to do so is illegal and violates laws for protection of intellectual property.

The very moment the products of said manipulation started being redistributed, modders quite certainly broke the Rules of Conduct of the game as well.

While this move from TakeTwo sounds regressive and kinda ill-timed now - modding GTA games has been a thing for years, and the franchise certainly benefited of the new visibility and increased sales thanks to it - it makes perfect sense.

BeamNG Drive wouldn't be as popular if mods weren't a thing. Modding is the thing that made BeamNG Drive a huge community, not the SoftBody Physics.

Don't. GTAF is cancer and the mods are no fun allowed pricks.

    Complain on 8chan /v/ instead: https://8ch.net/v/res/12816928.html#12817650

Look at the success of games that have built in mod support, like this, Euro Truck Sim. 2 exedra, ETS2 might still exist without mods, but BeamNG simply could not. This game is so much better with mods, don't get me wrong, I like BeamNG as it is stock, but the mods make it a better experience. Then there are games that need modding to simply exist, like spintires, and quite possibly GTA. Modding was a big selling point for lots of people, and the people have spoken, Modding is good. What has made GTA as successful as it's been? People, so shouldn't the customer be right? I think they should.

they can't do that, mod support is built in.

    they can't
The move with GTA was because of multiplayer (I believe) KSP has no multiplayer, and the website has a mod page, so I don't think the same thing would happen here...hopefully

this site is still associated with KSP as of now:
