Unsolved making mud

well i want to able to place mud on any map. A tutorial or somthing would be helpful
or how to move it around make it deeper on a map that already as it would be great thank in advance

The depth is controlled by an image that overlays the map, a grey-scale .png "mapname.ter.depth.png". If there's a correctly named image in the maps folder it's used. White has no depth, max depth is 1m AFAIK. You'd need to edit that image to increase or move the area's with depth.

The depth is independent from the ground texture, to line up your depth-map with area's of mud/sand export the heightmap, that will give you images showing where each texture appears on the map to use as a template to create your depth-map. Here's the example depth-map from GridMap.

i exported it using gimp so can i just put a black spot on the image and have it. to make a mud hole or?

That's only half of it. Where you put a grey dot in that image there'll be depth, if you put a grey dot where there's tarmac texture though you'll sink into tarmac. You need to also paint mud/dirt/sand texture in the same place you put the grey dot.

It's best to learn how to paint mud/sand texture into a map first, there are some old tutorials on map making but not much has changed, I'd have a look through those, there's one in the sticky section of Content Creation and some more if you search. Once you know how to add the mud texture to the map where you want it then you need to add the grey area on the depthmap at the same place. To do that you'll have to export the heightmap from the map where you added the mud/sand texture, that'll give you an image showing where the mud/sand texture is, and use that as template to add your grey to the depthmap.

Unfortunately there's no easy way, you'll need to be familiar with the map editor and adding textures to get it to work properly.

yes i know how to use the editor to paint the mud grass do i need to export it throught the editor or can i just get it from the dirctory.i cannot get the mud that i painted to show on the depthmap
but i think what your trying to say is i need to overlay them so i have a guide to follow
