I needed some kart-oriented courses to test out the race configurations for the Backyard Kart, so I decided to make a compilation of several courses. I initially only set this up for myself, but I had enough fun with it that I wanted to clean it up a bit and share it. The included (approved courses) are: Lentola Spoiler This course is called Lentola. The original mod can be found here It is a generally high-speed course. The elevation changes make some of the corners challenging, but not so much so that it detracts from the fun. The new 600cc race config is tuned for this course. Approval Proof: Osona Spoiler This course is called Osona. The original mod can be found here It is a fairly technical course, but it keeps a steady rhythm throughout. The 350cc race config can just reach top speed on the back loop. Approval Proof: Green Karting Echirolles : Spoiler This course is Green Karting Echirolles. The original mod can be found here It is a really tight course with a large overhead section. The 250 and 350cc race configs are the only two that really work here. Approval Proof: Goparc 2018 : Spoiler This course is called Goparc 2018. The original mod can be found here It is a fairly tight course that is just open enough to allow the 500 and 450cc configs to stretch their legs. Approval Proof: Karting Decora: Spoiler I tried to make a course that encompasses my favorite parts of kart tracks: tight, sharp corners and longer sweeping corners with a lot of elevation changes. The way it is set up allows for almost a constant speed throughout with the 350cc race config. View attachment 1014857 View attachment 1014856 View attachment 1014855 Gochoo Karting: Spoiler This one is my attempt at a multi-level course inspired by indoor courses and the occasional outdoor course. The layout is mostly done and just needs a few camber tweaks here and there. Mathing Karting: Spoiler This one is a simpler course designed to have a more consistent flow with a gradual reduction in corner speed as you approach the bridge. The last three straights are almost flat out and the following straights start in gear 6, then down to 5 before the hairpin, then 4 before the bridge. Bemidji Karting (WIP Title): Spoiler This one is a very basic course I made to fill the last remaining empty space. It is a generally high-speed course with two sections that require a bit of technique. The chicane and back corner have much more forgiving exits than entrances. This is the layout of the courses Although space is tight, each one will be able to be driven to using the Backyard Kart race configs: Here is a video I slapped together to show the state of the outdoor courses as of 04/21/2023: I do not have an estimated time for completion at this time, but it should be sooner than later since I just need to design supports for nach2 and nach3 and decorate nach2-4. 05/02/2023: The repo version has been uploaded! It is currently awaiting approval, so I am taking down the version uploaded here.
Already have two kart mods, can't wait for this! Will there be AI pathing? if not, I'll just use the hotlapping app.
There definitely will be ai pathing. I find it's most fun to pit a dozen or so ai of the backyard kart on small courses like this.
I made a bit of progress over the weekend. I added some foliage on Lentola, continued the collison mesh for and added lights to Osona, and added lights to Green Karting. Progress is still a bit slow due to the number of meshes I need to make for Osona, but it is coming along. The lighting is only active at night, so it won't impact fps during the day. My plan for this coming week is to start work on the ai pathing for the four courses I currently have in place and finish up the collision mesh for Osona so I can move on to Goparc. Goparc's objects are a lot simpler and more or less continuous, so it should be fairly quick. I have not heard from the modders of the three areas in the back, so I will either look for others or fill the space some other way, Lentola Changes Osona Changes Green Karting Changes
I decided to make a course of my own instead of using a premade one. I am still fine-tuning the docoration, but the layout is done. I wanted a course that allowed for a fairly consistent speed throughout while having significant differences in elevation and camber. There are two distinct sections to the new course: a flat area with several 90-degree turns and a hilly area. I like the use of the hills as barriers for the course even though it may not be entirely realistic. And here is a video of the course with the 350cc race config. It's a bit quiet due to how I have my audio settings:
I made progress on decorating the new course. I also eliminated the terrain peeking through the road. The technique I went with for the outdoor courses was to use the meshes as the decal for the road. This allowed me to use the existing textures while being able to use the more stable and tire-friendly terrain block. This course is 9 meters wide throughout
I have an early, but playable version of the map uploaded now. Lentola, Echirolles, and the custom track are all 100% done and the others are drivable. Osona will be missing some collisions here and there and Goparc is using the mesh collisions. Goparc's mesh seems mostly okay for this, but there may be edge cases where part of a vehicle gets stuck in the barriers. As with any of my mods, feel free to provide any feedback or make any suggestions!
as usual, incredible content that's right up my alley! I immediately boot up Beam whenever I see you drop a new update, so I can't wait to see these karts shine on a map that's specifically scaled/created for them... this is gonna be good. thank you; and I love you ...I mean wait, what?
don't worry, random stranger on the internet forums... I love you too. i'll always love you... ...but uh, anyway --- these tracks are so good that it's been making me fall in love with various BeamNG forum members, seemingly at random. great stuff @nachtstiel! haven't had any noticeable bugs jump out at me quite yet; gonna pop back in and report back with some actual substance and feedback!
It's been a bit, but I have made some progress with the small decorations here and there. I finished the track edging for Lentola and added a pond in the space between Lentola, Osona, and Goparc. I also added walls and guardrails to the custom course as well as made an inlet so now all of the courses can be driven into. Pond Custom course inlet Custom course new walls and stuff There are two large spaces in these corners that I am trying to decide what to do with. There originally were to be other courses here, but I could not get permission to use them. My plan for them, since one side is completely blocked off is to try to make a new course that has a huge bridge over Osona that connects the two areas. Here is a mock up of a course to fill the space. It has several sections where the course crosses over itself via elevated track sections:
So I decided to split the course into two individual courses. I also added a simple course in the space by Lentola. With these added, this will be the final layout of the map. The three new courses need names if anybody wants to suggest any. This map has 8 unique courses crammed into a fairly small space, but I personally feel like the map feels much larger than it really is when driving around. The final course layout: The three new courses are: Nach2: This one is "What if indoor course, but outside?" Nach3: A fairly short, but good-flowing course. The bottom and left straights are flat out and the subsequent corners are gradually slower until the bridge Nach4: I really only made this one to fill this space, but it turned out all right despite the simple layout. The chicane and left-hand corner are a bit deceptive. Before I release an initial repo version, I still need to finish the collision meshes for Osona and Goparc and decorate the new courses. Since I am getting close to finishing the update for the backyard kart, I should be able to dedicate more time to finishing this map. As soon as I finish the basic layout for the custom courses, I will be uploading an updated version here.
I got the new courses laid out and the collision meshes completed, so I have uploaded an updated version of the map. If you have any feedback on the layout of the custom courses, please let me know as I am very new to laying out race courses.
Circuits more fun than each other, congratulations, you have all my support for the rest of the construction of your map. If you want I can help to create time trials on it
I finished the track supports for Nach2. This was my first go-around designing something as complicated as a truss, but I think it came out okay. I need to put in barriers around the elevated sections of the track, but that should be fairly quickly done. I wasn't able to get more done due to scrambling to fix the issues with packaging the backyard kart mod last night, but now that I have a workflow, I should be able to get the rest done fairly quickly, especially Nach4 since it is a flat course. Here are some shots of the current state of Nach2 I also added a ton of vegetation around to help fill out the empty space between the courses. This really helps the map feel even bigger and helps with the immersion of each individual course. With some of the recent changes, the framerate has improved significantly as well as shown in the screenshot below. I used to hover around 100 fps in this area before adding the new courses and vegetation. Finishing the collision meshes for goparc and osona really helped with performance.
