How to you feel like moving from our beloved IRC chat (https://www.beamng.com/pages/chat/) to an official discord server?
I really like the idea, the current situation is a lot of smaller unofficial servers with their own focus and moderators(as you know) Would be a good idea if it is moderated properly. I think it could take a lot of manpower to handle though.
I remember there once being an "Official" server at one point (dummiesman ran it, and I believe it was given to tdev iirc) and it was shut down due to drama and the like. Soon after the shutdown, there was somewhat of a ban on BeamNG related discord servers. Not sure why a full 180 on this issue would be appropriate, and what's to prevent the issues that plagued the original server from affecting a successor?
Oh, at first I thought it was "IRC > Discord" as in "IRC is better than Discord"... I mean, I am kinda nostalgic myself, but that would be a little far-fetched, even for me... Anyway... I'd really like an official Discord Server. Thumbs up!
I really like the idea, it can be a nice global talking server a bit like the forums but with a little less serious what do not allow us the forum (like making a normal conversation, not saying shitpost in every channel)
Absolutely LOVE the idea!... as long as moderation doesn't become a problem this could be a lot of fun!
Providing drama doesn't break out in it again, sure whatever. Would be a nice change from having my eyes blasted by a white forum background at unreasonable hours of the day / night.
Does this mean that the Chat tab goes bye bye? If the official discord idea goes through and the chat tab gets deleted, it should be used once more as one last goodbye if you know what I mean. Then once the chat tab goes away it could get replaced by a discord tab that automatically takes you to the discord link once clicked? Idk just ideas for if this is an official decision.
Good idea, but if not moderated properly it could be pretty cancerous. Make a rule to prohibit mesh slap postings
If you need a moderator team, I am willing to apply my services for your BeamDiscord 2.0 Electric boogaloo But yes I agree the Discord would definitely need to be properly policed....um.....moderated correctly, dont want to take away from the developers time so I would consider doing a community run effort with trusted members of the community running the server again but under orders to keep the server in check not getting it out of hand like the 1.0 version we had before, that was sad but it involved too much of the devs time I feel trusted members on the Forum (I dont think I would even call myself qualified for that) could run it, best rule to have, is that it should not become stressful for any of the staff members, and that members respect the rules about it but thats sorta my enlarged view on it....
Good idea, yet I wouldn't join because screw massive servers....I count 80 "massive", I'm a wuss All I can say, I hope there isn't any bias or anything of that variety for the mods. I think Stoat is a good choice if possible, he seems super neutral on a ton of thinks as far as I can tell, and I haven't heard any drama that was his/he was in.
I would certainly love a BeamNG discord server. I use Discord quite often and am currently in a variety of BeamNG related servers As for moderation, I would prefer it to be run by the devs. Community moderation can result in quite a few issues. (Mainly favouritism, corruption etc.) Although I wouldn't mind if it were run by people such as Blijo and AI Torror, who do a great job moderating 'Modding For Dummies'
At least I have made my voice heard about the moderation on it, the staffing of the Discord server should be well managed. I do think it should be community run with staff on there but only to handle alerts for game support and stuff, that should be the extent of the Developers on there, but also it should have a community run atmosphere somewhere that everyone can go to and talk to others without it getting into a shitshow like the last one that I remember so vividly that got way out of hand, if the devs want a moderator, I would offer myself up for it but I also feel there should be a "community helper" team that can be gone to so that the staff on here dont have to get bugged by it, but thats another thought I had (borrowed from Automation Discord ) but hey at least it would be useful to have that there
