Headset and mic in one wont work

I have a headset that has a mic built into the chord but only the sound works please help

 

Is it connected to a combination port? chances are you're plugging into a headphone port that doesn't support mic input, most don't

 

I have a mic port and a headphone port and two ports on the back panel of my pc

 

But do your headphones have one or two jacks?

 

its one jack on the chord with three rings on the metal

 

You'll need to buy a splitter, if it's not a "Combination" jack. These are usually very cheap online so don't worry.
