Re: General discussion chat Well, my neighbor (Electrician. Has his own business.) has a pair of old generators sitting next to his driveway. I know they've been there for years and one of them at least used to work because he did use it during the big power outage in 2011. Anyway, I asked him if I could buy one and he just gave both of them to me for free. They are old Briggs Powermate generators. The smaller one that did work is a 4000 watt with (I think) an 8hp. The bigger one is a 5000 watt and I haven't done anything with it yet. It doesn't have a pull starter, just a starter motor and I'm not sure if it works or not. Seems to be pretty much the same engine design, just bigger and with a starter motor. It also has a panel and buttons instead of just plugs on the back of the generator. Now, I've been working on the small one and it has had old gas sitting in the carb so it was clogged and filled with crap which I cleaned out but taking it apart I ripped the gasket in half accidentally. I went to the auto store and they didn't have the right one so I got some gasket material to try and make my own but it didn't work. I know it's getting gas and filling the bowl, it's just not running off it. Just off of whatever I spray into the intake to get it started. The spark is nice and strong, I got as much of the old gas as I could out of the tank, etc. I ordered a carb rebuild kit with the gasket so I'm hoping that'll fix it. Anyway, as for the big one, how would I use jumper cables on the starter motor? http://imgur.com/a/2CY8a In other news, it's finally going to snow for real tomorrow. Hopefully/probably no school.
Re: General discussion chat The only issue is that the taillight is too wide. The circular lights are fine, but the surrounds are too wide. Notice on the real car that each surround is basically square (they are ever so slightly rectangular), and the circles come very close to the edge. My recommendation would be to shrink the width a bit, but retain the size of the circles. Keep in mind also that there's a small chrome trim separating the upper and lower parts of the light.
Re: General discussion chat It looks like the same type of starter motor you'd find on a car So a bit of googling would probably tell you how to use jumper cables Sent from the 3rd galaxy via the talks of tapping
Re: General discussion chat Same concept of starter motor, No doubt it would be a different input type. Get jumper leads and a small ride on mower battery or marine battery.
Re: General discussion chat Looks like a big ass cable coming off the starter. If it has a panel of buttons, maybe there is a start button. Otherwise, just hook it up to a battery (I'd start with a 6v one rather than 12v), it'll go, 50/50 chance of it going the correct way
Re: General discussion chat Dude, he is not permanently banned He has been banned for 2 weeks, then he will return. Well, that's what Sam said anyway... so I don't know if I should believe it....
Re: General discussion chat Made a flappy bird clone using my Arduino and oled (nice suggestion 6677) Not in the mood for making a video, so here's the code. http://pastebin.com/EuvegP6X Basic as hell, but shows how easy using the arduino can be
