Re: General discussion chat Midstates seem to be a big load of shit for everyone this year. We lost and got in 13th place, and we were all shocked (even band directors from those who made it to finals thought our band deserved to make it to finals). The judges were just shitty and super harsh.

Re: General discussion chat Yes, but the day after at OMEA state finals, we received a superior rating (highest rating). First time our band has done that since 2005, that was the year my current director student taught at the school. Coincidence, I think not!
Re: General discussion chat Little demo to show how absolutely insignificant the megapixel rating for a camera is. First image is from a Fujifilm A235 digital compact camera. 2nd image is from a Sony Xperia M phone using the android default camera app. Both cameras are on automatic settings for focus, flash, exposure, iso, white balance etc. Both cameras have had the resolution dropped to 3 megapixels rather than native (I was going to set the compact to 5mp to match the xperia native, but 5 isn't an option). Turns out the aspect ratio is not the same on both devices which is slightly annoying, but not going to make much difference here. 2 more compact shots. First is set to 2 megapixels. Second is set to 3M megapixels which I think means its applied MPEG compression or something (file size is tiny compared to the 2 megapixel shot). And finally phone at 5 megapixels.
Re: General discussion chat Correct me if I'm wrong, but megapixels only have to do with resolution, right? So as long as a camera has enough megapixels to shoot at a decent resolution, it just becomes a penis measuring contest beyond that point.
