I'm still looking for my first car, and there isn't much in my price range. Luckily there's quite a few of what I'm currently looking at (80's-90's Ford F-250) for under $3,000. There's obviously many more cars I could buy for a lot less, like a Honda, but I refuse to buy a little and/or foreign car. --- Post updated --- I don't think I could buy one of those for less than $15,000. I doubt if there's one anywhere in the country.
We had a similar scheme in the UK about 5 years back called the scrappage scheme. Im not sure what the immediate effect was on the second hand market, although I presume not good, but it has already recovered to the point where you can get a working car for 5x less than 1 years worth of insurance for a new driver (insurance @ £1200, new car @ £240). Or a fairly nice car for the same price as 1 years worth of insurance. We got our Hyundai I10 on scrappage scheme for just over £5000 ($7200) new which was a pretty good deal, So I guess we benefited from it heavily.

Ok, so. I've changed my pants, now it's time to share my story. I went to the pet store to get some supplies for our aquarium. On the way back, I heard some knocking in the front left suspension of the Corolla. Now, I know that the suspension knocks, I've just been putting off looking at it because I'm slightly lazy. Well, on the drive home, the knocking got louder. "Ok," I said to myself, "That's a little odd." It was then I realized that the steering went hesitant and vague, followed by a loud bang and a sharp pull to the left into oncoming traffic. Hazards on, I promptly ducked into a neighborhood, screaming. I sat there for about 10 minutes trying to figure out what had happened. Tomorrow I rip it apart to find the failure point, after limping it to and from school, as I drive it on Friday's.
Probably serious damage. Might be a tie rod or a broken control arm. Scary shit. This was my stance after a rear trailing arm broke one time.
I have received permission from iDT SImulations to convert their 1995 CART Season model. Lets hope I can keep motivation up! https://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=1995+CART+Season
Turns out that the xbox kinect can get very damn hot if you put a hoodie over it. With Amazon Prime Video you cannot turn any displays off because of copywrite protection, So I have to cover secondary monitors with hoodies. My kinect now smells like it has just had a solder reflow done on it due to lack of ventilation, the plastic was red hot to the touch. On the other hand Pacific Rim is a pretty good film, even if physics only apply when convenient If only I could have enjoyed 5.1 audio while watching. But Amazon don't support anything more than stereo on anything other than consoles and some smart TV's. Its 2016, 5.1 audio shouldn't be a problem.
So, I took the wheel off of the Corolla. Holy shit, dude. The top of the strut broke off from the mount, then the spring broke in 2 places. It doesn't look repairable either, there's a lot of damage stil to find.
