Definitely put it in your old PC if your PSU is good enough. There is no reason not to.

Just make sure you are getting a reputable brand, you never want to skimp out on a PSU. Somebody gave me their old, dead PC, and it looked like it had not even been used for a year, however a bad PSU took out the motherboard and pretty much everything else.

So, another free bandwidth upgrade. Old tests were 100Mb/s down, 5-10Mb/s up. SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY.

If you find yourself using Blender for rendering often you may be able to get it playing nice with OpenCL for dual GPU. If not you can use the old Nvidia card for rendering while gaming on the new AMD one. Could be a fairly neat setup if it matches your use cases.

I wouldn't advise trying to get an AMD and Nvidia graphics card rendering to the screen together. Not a good solution at all. Maybe DX12's multi GPU support might be able to do something with the gtx750, outside of that your only real option is using the GPU for computer like in Blender and other specialist applications. You may be able to get it to run as a physX card if you are willing to use hacked drivers, but equally not really worth it.

I guess it makes sense if you need the PCI-e lanes for GPU work. HEDT is prosumer.

The high-end chip being $2k tells me intel has learned nothing though.

And they aren't even soldering the dies anymore, they are using the crappy thermal paste that made everybody go out and delid their 7700Ks. More business for der8auer I guess.

I should have said an I5 extreme edition. I thought all extreme editions became I9's, not actually the case.

However, they legit have an I5 extreme edition for the extreme edition/i9 platform that has a 200mhz higher base clock with the same turbo, same cache and 16 lanes. They have also "removed" (disabled) the iGPU. I have heard it mentioned that it *may* be able to overclock better because of the higher TDP compared to the normal version. Guess we will see.

The funny thing is the R5 1600 is cheaper than that I5, and will last far, far longer, all while having better thermals and a nice stock cooler.

To contrast that the I5's will be way faster than the Ryzen CPU's in single threaded applications. Which means lower software loading times and for the most part a better gaming experience. Not to say the Ryzen's don't have their advantages, but I think as it stands to the average user they are both about even when taking pricing into account. Although Intel does have coffee lake chips set to come out in the next few months with around a 15% performance increase (up to 30% on some mobile models).

I think Ryzen is absolutely great, but it hasn't really done a whole lot to knock Intel out of the game this generation. Both product stacks from Intel and AMD roughly slot together with the I5 7600k and R5 1600 costing roughly the same.

Not the worlds greatest source but you get the general picture: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-7600K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5-1600/3885vs3919

I bet there always will be this one guy on the forums, who will buy the maxed out i9-7980XE, complete Banana benchmark, get 1.2 Gbeams score and we all will be surprised
