CVTCS is yeah, just advancement and retarding of the camshafts, a few nissans have it intake and exhaust. Rather fancy as it allows continuous variation rather than just 2 settings as older systems allowed. Most VVT systems are the same as CVTCS and simply alter the timing, nothing more and nothing less, some are like CVTCS and allow continuous variation, some allow only 2 or 3 fixed settings. VTEC of course allows 2 entirely different cam profiles with different lifts, timings and speeds in opening/closing. iVTEC has variable timing of the intake too. AVTEC should allow continuously variable timing control of both intake and exhaust but isnt in manufacture. VTEC isnt alone in modifying lift anymore, but most road cars do not have this feature and lesser still have the entirely switched up profiles. Nissans VVEL and BMWs valvetronic for example can both alter lift, but not the ascent/descent profiles. Valvetronic is not reliable at higher engine speeds either. Both of these systems are purely electronic and while VTEC tends to be activated/deactivated electronically, it is possible to be done purely hydraulically. I just dont see why its a thing to hate on. You can have a nice soft cam profile for your normal economy driving, then a rougher profile for when the engine is operating in the power band. Best of both worlds as the rougher profiles tend to run like crap for economy driving and well, a soft profile does not tend to produce much power at speed - - - Updated - - - In different ways with totally different effects.
Import drivers understand it as simply a tool for broadening the powerband of a small, high-strung engine. Muscle car drivers have a broad enough powerband that they don't need VVT. Everyone laughs at the ricers who think it gives their Civic DX nine billion horsepower. I also suspect there's a lot of "no replacement for displacement" at the root of it. People think it's a crutch used so that those tiny "buzz bomb" type engines can make power.
Everyone and their dog complains about people like this, but I've never once actually seen something like this. VTEC is fine. Small engines with fancy tech or large amounts of boost are some of the most interesting, anyway.
You dont need 9 billion hp to get up to the national speed limit (60mph on rural roads in the UK), but the handling and the feel of the car will make it far more entertaining. Which is why the answer is always miata (or MX5 in the UK)
To add to the VTAK convo, I'd wished my car had some form of it, the GT was DOHC but not sure if it had variable valve timing or spinning lobes, etc. I'd kill for a bit more than 90-2 HP.
today when my dad was picking up a motorcycle we spotted this an early 90s Honda prelude in pretty bad shape feel free to send me a pm if you want more pictures of it. I did manage to salvage some badges oh and this is fitting since you guys were talking about VTEC engines. VTEC YO!!
Can someone explain the Nissan SX and Silvia names to me? Basically an SX is sold as Silvia in some countries or what? I got really confused while searching info.
SX = hatchback Silvia = coupe At least that's the way it is for the S13. Also, I suspect the SX was a bit sharper and sportier while the Silvia was softer and more comfortable. Speaking of, now that some of the are legal to import, someone around here - yes, in Wasilla, Alaska, or at least this part of Alaska - has an S13 Silvia convertible, but it's kind of riced.
If you stretch the definition of "coupe". The SX is more of a fastback than a traditional hatchback, but the rear glass is part of the trunklid.
basically Silvia is the jdm model and the sx is what they sell in other markets well that's what I think.
Saw this sex bomb with the custom license plate [123.HRT] (Two cars behind this VF was a R33 Skyline like Doug DeMuro's, you can see it in this pic)
Got a decision to make. I've got to decide between a Ford Mondeo 2.0tdi AWD Titanium X and an Audi A4 2.0 Quattro Se. Both of them would be in estate form, which one should I go for?
post some pictures of the cars you have to choose from. oh the best tip is to read buyer reviews so you know which one is the best from public opinions.
They are the brand new 2016 plate cars so I get to choose the colour and some basic extras. There is also a Land Rover Discovery Sport 150 and a Mercedes C220 2.0d AMG line on the list, but I know I can't fit in the Merc and the Land Rover is rather slow..
Company car m80, they give me a big long list to choose from. If I want a more expensive car I then have to pay a monthly fee. Both the cars would end up costing me around £40 a month. My personal car is my MG and that is quite expensive to run and insure.
