LoL, pretty car, and I would be more worried about the neighbors spying on you. Go for a candy paint coat, two tone, street colors.
Been doing exhaust work on my truck this week, got a glasspack muffler which turned out to be slightly too large in diameter to fit into the stock flared section of the existing system. Tried to find a coupler that'd work, no luck, so I took the back half of the exhaust system to a shop in town and had them cut off the flared area and weld in a piece of pipe that'd work. Dude was cool and only charged $12 for his time. So hopefully the exhaust can be installed today, and the truck can be back on the road, I miss driving her
I finally got the chance to polish and clean up the exhaust tips on my car, there was a substantial amount of carbon deposit. I ended up using some sandpaper and Mother's aluminum polish, but steel wool would be more ideal for cleaning it out. This was about as good as I could get it without taking the tips off entirely. I'm still debating over whether I should sell the axle back exhaust that's on it currently for around $700 and find a OEM axle back exhaust for around $300, or just keep what's on it currently. It sounds great, but it's not something I'm particularly interested in for a daily driver. I also think the oval style tips throw off the styling of the car, and the stock round style tips look a lot better.
I'd like to get a nice set of Euro headers which sound a lot less raspy than the US-spec headers which are on it currently, and add a bit of power. The axle-back exhaust doesn't add much power, and just makes it sound better. The stock exhaust sounds just the same, but it is a bit more quiet, and seems to give more low end torque (I don't have any proof of this, but I've driven a bone stock 'vert M3.). I haven't checked whether it also has the Borla midpipe, but I probably won't sell that if it does. And even if the axle-back exhaust on it currently produces more power, it most likely would be so marginal it wouldn't be noticeable after I put the OEM muffler back on it. The benefit of having a quieter car outweighs the benefit of maybe three or four horsepower at the top end, but that's just how I feel about it. I love how it sounds when I'm pushing the engine hard, but I just feel like I'm being "that guy" by just shifting at normal RPM's in traffic. And it doesn't help that it doesn't have a lot of low end torque, which means I usually have to shift close to 4000 RPM. I'll see if I can get a clip of how it currently sounds soon. But I think the stock muffler still sounds pretty good, but is a lot more restrained. More sound doesn't always equal more horsepower. Here's a clip of what the stock exhaust sounds like. I'm still considering keeping it the way it is, so don't get too worked up about it.
I can't really recommend and annoying exhaust, though I tend to think louder cars are cool. Here's an older M3 with glasspacks, though he never really stomps on it: Here's a Euro E46 CSL with straight pipes. I'm usually a V8 man, but a high-revving I6 ain't bad either: (Please don't imitate the guy in the video with regards to driving. I have 6 demerit points now from going about as fast as he looked like he was going, well, maybe not quite that fast, I don't know how fast he was going but I don't think my rust heap could go that fast)
Wrong thread Cwazy. I can't count the numbers of times I've done that (both gen discussion in here and PSU zaps).
I completely agree, that CSL sounded great. It's a shame that CSL headers cost around $2,000, and a carbon fiber airbox being extremely rare and costing up to $5,000. Even though that sounds amazing, I'm not sure I want to spend almost half of what I spent on my car making it sound that great. My main problem with the exhaust on my M3 currently is the characteristic rasp around 4,500 RPM if you step on it hard. It sounds great otherwise, I'll see if I can get a clip of the exhaust note soon. I'll also jack up my car tomorrow and try to figure out if it has a Borla midpipe, I'll keep it the way it is if it does and save up my pocket change for some European headers.
HACN , you tailgate that car , park next to it , detatch the tires and wheels , burn them down , and then you quickly buy stock monaro tires , and write this on a piece of paper : if you do that again , fuck you . and then drive away like a badass .
You don't know pressure until you've navigated a very tight parking lot in the ghetto containing more than one Chevy caprice. One slight tap and you get stabbed.
Just because it has a Pontiac badge on it doesn't make it a GTO. Its a Monaro. Just like putting a Toyota badge on a Commodore doesn't make it a Lexcen. (Yes Toyota sold Commodoresin the 90s & called them the "Lexcen".
