Given that the Dual-Matic seems to be inspired by General Motors' Powerglide (at least based on the range of years it was available in), it would be cool to get a 2-speed auto option in the Barstow - just like one could get a Powerglide in a Camaro.

Plus, how about a dragster with just one shift point?

ive done some research and testing with the car and i might be wrong but im just gonna say what ive found. all performance v8 muscle cars in 1970 were capable of a quarter mile of 14.9 or lower. The slowest i could find which is the 1970 mustang boss 302 that according to ford made 290 horse was capable of 0-60 in 6.5 seconds and a quarter mile time of 14.9 seconds and thats with it being on bias plys. The 70 camaro z28 is even faster according to car and driver the z28 on bias plies with the 350 and the 3 speed was capable of a 0-60 of 5.8 and a quarter mile of 14.2. The barstow roadsport with the big block 423, 4 speed manutal 3:30 rear gear and 235 radials on my best attempt is only able to hit a 15:00 quarter mile time and a 0-100kph of 7.5 seconds. Thats slow. Lookup the quarter mile time and mph of any 1970 performance muscle car even the small block ones and you'll find the barstow is quite slow in comparison. Though funnily enough even tho it feels slower the new torque curve made the barstow actually faster because it can put down the power and launch better but it is still slow when put against real life cars of the era. The 351 motor is actually faster 0-60 and quarter mile time wise than the 423 to. Now i have no idea what surface these irl tests were done on it could be on a prepped surface or something so maybe thats why. but in my opinion the 351 and the 423 need to be bumped up a little in the power department.

the base model 291 is actually to fast but thats because the 3 and 4 speed. ive done it and tested myself and if a 2 speed auto and maybe a 3 speed colum shift manual was added to the base model 291 and i6 versions it would be more in line with real life.

None of the contemporary tests were done on prepped surfaces, most drag strips weren't even prepped at this time. the barstows top 423 would only be able to compete with the lower 396s and 390s and so on

I love the car! Great drift config and a remaster might do!

So, I decided to throw both the 423 RoadSport and Lancehead around Hirochi Medium again, just to see if this still hold up. One major difference between then and now is that the Lancehead has had its grip significantly reduced - from 0.89g on the skidpad at 64 km/h to 0.81g. That...that pretty much ruined it. It's no longer able to defeat the '88 Pessima GTZ around this track - which is fair enough, IMO. But it's not even able to defeat the 423 RoadSport, anymore, despite it being technically an "upgrade".

The RoadSport is somehow better under hard acceleration than the Lancehead - I can easily pull away in 2nd with the former, while in the latter, it just slides around so much in 3rd gear. I think it's due to the stiffer rear springs that the RoadSport comes with. The old Radial T/As covered a lot of the problems with the Lancehead - I feel like it needs some heavy-duty rear springs to make it more stable.

Here's three times I got with the RoadSport and Lancehead on an Xbox controller around two laps of Hirochi Medium, with no rolling start and going forward:

    Barstow 423 RoadSport (M):

    -1st time: 3:15.726
    -2nd time: 3:14.974
    -3rd time: 3:15.395
    -Average: 3:15.365

    Barstow Lancehead (M):

    -1st time: 3:17.746
    -2nd time: 3:18.515
    -3rd time: 3:17.546
    -Average: 3:17.936

And just for context, my new times with the '88 and '96 Pessima GTZs (there's no 854tx anymore):

    -'88 Pessima GTZ: 3:03.768

    -'96 Pessima GTZ: 2:59.627
