The game itself is a WIP, but still its good for what it is, if you know what your doing its remarkable what you can do in it, besides this game has a professional side to it that us mere mortals cannot access due to it requiring a commercial licence that Audi and the like uses to simulate stuff, so think about that, if it can be trusted by Audi then how can this game be well a waste of money?

I checked back now that I’m home from work. The dynometer UI app definitely says it is giving HP and torque at the flywheel, and lists the peaks at 258ho and 312 lb/ft respectively for the 423 RS Barstow. Assuming that really is the numbers BEFORE transmission losses those numbers really are pretty low for a high performance big block of the era. If it’s a mistake in labeling and the UI app gives HP at the wheels instead of the flywheel then power is much more in the ballpark, but you understand my confusion.

The best verification will be testing the 423 RS Barstow against its real world doppleganger in the quarter mile time, the 428 ‘68 Torino. 14.2 seconds at 99 is the mark I got when I looked it up. Later when I’ve had sleep.

thats the car i was mostly reffering to when i said the power was too high
i have one of those cars and even with most of the emmissions equipment gone and a few power upgrades it can only barely spin the tires on a wet surface
yet the moonhawk does it stock

It could also be related to the tires. Currently in game, there is no distinction between 50s and 70s tires for example, both in terms of technology, but also the tire wear (a tire from the 50s would be very worn if it survived up to the 70s, and even if not, it would still have less grip than 70s tires because older technology). Not sure if we will be able to figure out how to solve that any time soon sadly.

im running modern tires on my oldsmobile so that shouldnt be a problem
but these mid to late 70s cars are extremely gutless

What exactly is the roadblock to making the 50s tire less grippy? Lack of data particulars on 1950s tires or what?
    --- Post updated ---
Modern tires would presumably have more grip and be harder to spin.
Also I’ve noticed that it seems fairly easy to break tires free with clutch dumps or the like and really easy to keep them spinning on e broken loose in Beam, really no matter the car. This despite the fact that the grip seems spot on when testing things like lateral G capacity. Likely has more to do with ins and outs of tire modeling than power. BeamNG is a journey not a destination.

Having to add a lot more tires. We have like thousands of tire variants in game, and now we would have to separate them by decade or even more. And we would have to define whether older tires should behave more worn than newer ones, or to treat all of them like fresh unused tires. This is a big rabbit hole, and we have to solve more important tire issues first before we go there.

That last bit isn't really a rabbit hole, treat them all like new tires by default, good lord *facepalm*. When you're playing IL-2 your Yak is "factory new", not "sat in a Russian barn for 80 years". Maybe, just maybe have old and rotted tires as an option. Eventually...

Then what if you buy a tire for a pre-war car in career mode, those are obviously not manufactured anymore, so would be weird if you could buy a brand new one

It's stuff to be added, but definitely one of the smaller problems to handle i'd say
Not in the sense it's neccesserily a quick fix but rather a small issue compared to other things

Yeah and we have lots of small issues like this that have to be figured out on the planning stage because ignoring them would make them pile up later

No, i get that. Putting everything in the tosspot will only cause problems further down the line. But it's important to mention, because sometimes it feels like people gloss over the big problems to request small ones that aren't in the focus area for the time being.

This is also magic Beamland where 30+ year old cars are common and in pristine condition populating the roadways

If it's worth the opinion of a random player, I'd rather have tires always remain comparable to today's replacements. My draw to BeamNG's cars is knowing they'd behave similar in real life. Even tires from the early 2000s would be dry rotted and unusable. So I'd like to get the vintage recreations with updated compounds because that's what would be on the restored vehicles today.
