I’d like to, but I still have to learn the correct way of uv mapping. There are some textures already in the interior, but they are not up to my current standards anymore. First job what I’m doing now is to build the JBeam from scratch and then alter the model as required. After that the uv skins may be made, but that’s something for later. --- Post updated --- Thanks for that! I’ll check everything and change the model as required!
JBeamed the front bumper today, but somehow at spawning it breaks quite violently. I don't understand what the problem is, as I also tried to adjust both the body and bumper JBeams to prevent them from touching eachother, but that didn't work. Any idea's?
check that the collision triangle are not too close if you still use jbeam from sunburst you have to check the top of radiator and distance between bumper and bumperbar.
Along with this; Check to see if you possibly have an instability caused by said part. Lower beamSpring values on the beams connecting the bumper to your body until you see the part stop breaking off violently. Then, start cranking that value up until you start to see vibrations in the "Stress" JBeam debug view, then tone it back a bit. Also don't rule out the possibility you have too many beams connecting the bumper to the body.
Thanks for the tips! I think I haven't got any beams connecting the bumper to the body, so I guess that could be the problem? Will try to rectify that next time
I'm officially going mad... Wanted to take my Focus for a spin, haven't changed anything, but it suddenly breaks on spawn?? I haven't touched this JBeam or anything as I've created a 'new' car with different name to build the Jbeam from scratch. Any ideas what happened? Like I said, Nothing has been changed and the last time I spawned it (few days ago) everything worked.... EDIT: nevermind! Cleared cache, copied the Focus folder back and everything works again...! Don't get it but oh well..!
Wasn't completely happy with the body and wasn't able to make it as realistic as I wanted in the first place. Now I'm complete rebuilding the entire Focus using a 3D model from www.dmi-3d.net It's an ST model which is going to be heavily modified to fit into BeamNG as the Standard Factory versions. Only the exterior model will be reused, all the rest is or will be hand built in blender for the best final result. Any feedback appreciated I know it's not the same as a 100% scratch built car, but it will look way better this way. Next car will be build completely different as I now have got some experience with blender, and should have done a lot of things different in the beginning. Oh well, it's a learning curve! When I'm happy again with the 3D model I'll continue the Jbeam.
Does that mean you Cancelled the scratch made model or just making the scratch made model better by using references from the 3D model?
It’s more like a hybrid model. Trying to create the best by taking the good parts from each model. For instance: my handbuilt interior, suspension and engine bay is quite detailed and realistic while the other model lacks any detail in these areas. I’ll probably only use the outer “skin” of the other model, and the other areas will be reused from my own model. Would be a shame to throw everything away The suspension you see in the pics is already my own suspension together with the other model.
Polyflow looks quite good, better than my own model for sure! Does needs lot of cleaning on the model as it has some weird spots. It actually has less vertices than my own model, but it looks way better. Something I’d like to achieve myself one day..!
Update: Engine, engine bay and suspension now installed in model. Front bumper heavily remade using my own model to create the factory stock bumper. Headlights also finished for now.
it looks really nice now! can you post a screenshot using wireframe? It looks like you will have to much details. Even if it has to much details, you can use that model to bake normals onto a lower poly version so you have the detail of the high with the poly count of the low
Sounds like a good idea! Will post a pic when I’m on my computer again. The body itself is quite decent. Not too much vertices and a good polyflow. It does need a very good cleanup as it has some random vertices everywhere for no reason at all. I do think it’s a good base to build on once i’ve cleaned it up. --- Post updated --- Keep in mind that I’m now also using a built 3D model together with my own model to build a better looking car
Complete underside is now rebuilt using my own model, interior and engine bay also mostly finished. Next step is to get it working in BeamNG again, as it needs some minor adjustments.
