Bought myself a Quest 2 this week, here's how BeamNG runs for me in VR. From my experience it runs pretty good at high/ultra ish. I just can't really tell if the fps is choppy/smooth.
I actually absolutely had no issues trying to set up VR!

(I was made aware of the setting that "fixes" the 4:3 ratio after recording xd)
    Specs:
    i5-11400f
    GTX 1080Ti 11gb
    32gb 3200mhz DDR4

How does italy run so good for you? If i try ECUSA WCUSA Italy Industrial or Utah its laggy! Specs: 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11800H @ 2.30GHz 2.30 GHz 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor 6.0 GB (15.7 GB usable) Alienware Gaming Laptop

I'm not seeing a graphics card listed, but if even Utah is lagging then it's almost certainly your laptop running out of VRAM.

Open op task manager (shortcut: CTRL+SHIFT+ESC), click the Performance tab, click on CPU, Memory and GPU and type down what you see. What's important to know is your CPU (you already shared that), your RAM/Memory and your GPU. Should look something like this:
    upload_2023-10-18_11-47-26.png
Since you have a laptop, there will be 2 GPU's, your integrated and dedicated. For gaming you should always use your dedicated GPU, we don't know what it is yet so we'll get into that later if needed.

Is the NVIDA the dedicated? The other is an Intel. Edit: Is there a way to only use the dedicated?

Yep, the Nvidia RTX 3060 is your dedicated GPU. I feel like any map should run smooth in Full HD (1920x1080) with those specs? But it might look like BeamNG is using your integrated GPU.
To make games always use your dedicated GPU, you can try 2 things.
Obviously be sure you have your power adapter plugged in and check if you're not on some power saving mode, I think you can check this if you click on the bottom right of your Windows taskbar on the battery icon.

    1. This way you can brute force programs to use whatever GPU you want
Right click somewhere on desktop > NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D settings > Program Settings > Add/Select BeamNG .exe
Now there should be a setting somewhere in that list about which GPU the game should use, I don't exactly remember what it says exactly, but set it to the setting that says something like "Use Powerful NVIDIA CPU". That should be all, don't forget to save.

    And/Or

    2. This should work most of the time
Open Windows Settings > Search for/Go to Power & Sleep settings > Click Additional power settings > Change preferred power plan to Performance.

(Let me know if I got something wrong)

How do i change the preferred power plan in Additional Power Settings?
edit: i tried option 1 and it did not make it not choppy, it is still choppy, im going to let it run and see if it unlags
edit 2: it did not turn off my intel.

Hi, I found a bug and I am not sure if it is known but when I waypoint something I can only see the blue arrows on the road with my left eye which looks very strange. Is there a way to fix that?

Virtual Desktop just released a beta with OpenXR support and it works with Beamng, seems to get good performance. However I really can't play still because of how bad the pop in is, super distracting. Is that going to be fixed?

    Hello all.
Waiting for so long beam in VR ! This is just fantastic even if I had some performance issue (but overall, it is very stable for a "more than a beta function":)).

But a question, am I the only one having performance issu when doing à time trial session ? (even more when there is à lot of check point). The impact on the perf is even greater than adding IA cars.
    Got ryzen 5 5500, 32go ram, rtx 3070 and quest 2.
Thank all and good ride !!!

Thanks,VirtualDesktop-OpenXR was added to our VR documentation, glad you had notroubles with using it either :)

Pop-in is just a performance tradeof, it's not a 'fix' per se. For example, twice the pop-in distance means quadruple the GPU cost.

As far as I'm aware, there's no plans for now to add gfx quality slider for pop-in distances, but I'll forward the request to the render guys.

This is the very first report of such an issue I've read. To confirm I understand you correctly: are you saying that timetrials only have that big negative impact if VR is enabled, and they have no impact when VR is disabled?

    Hi!

After some kind of recent update I can no longer play BeamNG, and it seems to be related to having my Valve Index plugged into my computer. If I reinstall my graphics drivers after using DDU, I can launch BeamNG so long as I do not ever plug the index back in. It continues to not work even if I unplug it, once it has been plugged in. This means that if I ever play VRChat or Assetto Corsa, I have to reinstall my graphics drivers and leave the index unplugged to launch BeamNG. It doesnt matter if I try to launch with DX11 or Vulkan.

Previously to this, I have played BeamNG in VR but if I put it above Lowest preset, it would work only for a very short time before crashing (unrelated?)

Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

    Win10 Home 22H2
    Ryzen 7 5800X3d
Radeon 6950XT (fluid motion frames preview driver 23.30.01.02, I tried downgrading without DDU to WHQL driver I've used previously with Beam, and it didnt fix)
    BeamNG 0.30 on Steam

Several different errors come up, but it always says first "It is possible that your hardware/OS does not meet the minimum requirements. Please contact our support team."

Then it will sometimes list errors like
    " BeamNG.drive 0.30.6.0 0xC0000374 STATUS_HEAP_CORRUPTION "

some of dxdiag output below, Index unplugged:

**EDIT** Quick update, I noticed that windows was detecting a 2nd display even when the index had been unplugged, and it was set as display 1. It would not let me select my monitor as primary. After restarting the computer with the index unplugged, it lets me launch beamNG without reinstalling the drivers. So this seems to be some problem with windows detecting my Index as a primary display and not a BeamNG issue.

Thanks for the answer. No issue in pancake screen, only in vr (me be I have enought power to deal with without vr but I don t think so). More strangely, It doesn t happen all the time (for example in the sprint of calamity peak in johnson valley map. Perf issu 80% of the time last week, less than half the time this week...:/).I will try to find a commun "action" that I might do and that lead to this perf issue.
But, what a game, have it seems so many years, never getting old and keep going better.

Sorry, another détail. After loading a time trial, objects for this spécifique TT are loaded in the map. When leaving the tt, they stay in the map.

Thanks for reporting. The behaviour can receive improvements without having to be disabled. I'll add to the list of pending issues, hopefully I can find time to polish that feature.

Interesting. May I also suggest you use the shift+win+left (or right/up/down arrow keys) to move windows around your screens. Might help with that driver issue :)
