Unfortunately I confirm that the fix we introduced did not work correctly in the final released update (it only worked during our internal testing...). v0.30.3 should solve that once and for all.

Devs, I don't know what to say. This update is fantastic. VR is incredibly immersive. Crashing an open topped Civitta, is downright frightening, yet exhilarating at the same time. This runs on a high end rig flawlessly. I have a 7900x3d Ryzen 9 and a 4090, and my God it's incredible. Any way to make distance objects/backround less blurry? My only (minor) gripe. Awesome job guys.

I have 13600kf and 4090 , what is the performance in VR what kind of VR you have? What is the load on a deocard in % at ultra settings, what helmet do you recommend?

And you get stable 90fps on all maps?

Can't say, but it has been a very smooth experience, so far.

VR is probably one of the best things for this game, but I do think it could do with quite a bit of optimization, spawning traffic after loading, or changing car with auto spawn traffic on will cause my framerate to drop from 90fps to 22fps. I love it but I can barely run it.

I understand making it run better will probably take a while due to it being experimental which I understand.

It seems it only works on less filled maps. West Coast and such are incredibly laggy, even with my PC's specs.

Also, I can't try the career mode. Nothing happens when I click it.

    Hello All,
I have 5900x and 6900x with Pimax 8kx. So first the problem is VRAM, practically all maps eat all 16Gb of Vram at once.
Of course, no one here on the forum shares what resolutions they play with, I saw someone and 1080ti runs perfectly at 60 fps... and they are happy, I wonder what the video quality is, I feel it is not very good. Well, the most important thing is that they like it.
I would need more, at least 4K with medium settings. :)
The biggest problem is Vram consumption. I think others have it too, they just don't know if they don't think that they need to see what the GPU consumes.
Another issue is that Pimax only works with SteamVR and SteamVR runtime. Doesn't work with OpenXR.
I tried all kinds of FOV angles, I tried all kinds of resolutions, I tried all kinds of runtime combinations. Nothing works except steamVR.
One thing that helped me to play without using all the Vram was to make the game screen in windows mode and reduce it to the smallest visible level. Then gaming at 4K in VR on medium settings used 14Gb of Vram. But, to go to another map, Vram fills up and PC hangs...
I suspect that both the game itself and VR render separate images, so I get full 12K :D,
When you minimize the main game window, the Vram consumption is reduced.
And I also suspect that when you turn off VR or switch to another map, Vram doesn't clear itself, so it also fills up completely and the PC hangs...

BeamNG Developers will surely solve this problem. I have been with this simulator since the first day it went on sale. And I saw his transformation from a not-so-pretty duckling to a white swan :) , as well as from a simple simulator to a real-world experience.

I think that one of the advantages that WMR users have now thanks to the Vulcan hack, is that Steam VR is no longer necessary. So that overhead is gone.I was able to bomb around Italy with traffic enabled so much so that they kept getting in my way lol.

Sorry if it was already mentioned, I would suggest to add an VR option to snap the "head view point" to the horizon instead of the car, it gives me personally bad motion sickness if it's "view anchor" is on the car. There is an option like this in Assetto Corsa for example. Thank you in advance, I'm so thankful you guys are constantly improving the game!

Sorry, found it, this is kind of what I meant in my post before. Thanks RitterWolf! I totally agree, damping or "snapping" to horizon would help immensely with motion sickness.

I'm working on a VR friendly interior camera mod that fully implements horizon locking. When your car gets turned upside-down the camera will snap back to the car so it's possible to drive on loops without your view being obstructed. I should be releasing it sometime soon.

    UPDATE:
I just published my VR camera mod. It's going through the approval process right now. Should be available soon.

    UPDATE 2:
    It has been released! https://www.beamng.com/resources/vr-horizon-locking-interior-camera.28460/

The rock crawling missions are absolutely like driving a Jeep or in my case Montero over some moderate to severe terain. The locking hubs do a world of difference.
    This is so damned awesome.

I'm stuck on the waiting screen in SteamVR when enabling VR mode. Game has no mods, SteamVR has OpenXR enabled, I tried deleting Local Appdata and My Documents folder, nothing so far. Any ideas?

(The game detects the headset and the POV moves when I move my HMD)

VR in beamNG has exposed many design flaws in some cars. For example, the seats in the Stambecco are unnaturally low relative to the pedals, the gaps in the steering wheel in the LeGran are very narrow, and the gearshift knobs and steering wheels in many cars are unnaturally small. It doesn't seem to be an issue of distance, but rather the scale of these elements. I could be wrong, but perhaps the ability to adjust the height and extension of the steering column and seat would partially solve this problem. Aside from that, I'm still impressed with how well VR runs on my setup (Quest 2 + RTX3080 + i9 11th gen.). I love you devs for this update <3

Now that we have VR, I and probably many others would really appreciate a real lock to horizon camera, with it locking to the horizon in the pitch axis as well, as it would help with motion sickness and immersion. It's already possible by messing with some config settings in the files but it would be nice to have a simple toggle for it.
Edit: Nevermind i didn't scoll up 2 messages to find out its already been talked about and is being handled with mods. Still, an official solution would be nice to have

Don't know if it might be an issue that the BeamNG devs can fix, but if I try to turn on VR while in a BeamMP server my game will freeze or even cause Windows 10 to outright crash with a blue screen. Then, my save file got corrupted and reset all of my settings.

EDIT: Hmm, it did that the first few times I tried it, but now it works all the time. No idea what happened there...

    Specs:
    • 2080 Super
    • i7 9700k
    • 48gb ram
    • Oculus Quest 2
VR has been an awful experince for me as no matter how much I change my graphic settings vr runs like a slide show with almost 10 second delay from when I press the gas pedal before anything happens

edit: the game runs better when tabbed out than when Im tabbed into the game

Don't launch the game in VR.
Open it normally, then use the keybind to enable VR.
