I love the I-series (Particularly the 3000i, just the right power and perfect handling). In fact, I love it so much that I wish it existed in reality, so I could get one. This got me thinking, what is the closest car, driving wise, to the I-series? Is it the Mercedes W201? W202? W124? BMW E36? Ford F150???? A dump truck???????

What do you think is the closest mechanically to an I-series in reality? Keep in mind I'm talking about handling, power delivery and comfort, aesthetics doesn't really matter (like stylosa once said ;p).

Generic European RWD vehicle of bigger and bit luxurious family class.

My guess would be something along the lines of a 5/7 series BMW. Something like this

I think the E32 7-series is probably the most similar (long wheelbase with a little more sporting pretension), but I would go for a W124 or W201 Mercedes based on personal experience of their reliability and build quality.

I would say it's closer to the Mercedes 190E Evo 2. The w201 chassis, as others have said.

I would say it's a mix of both of these, depending of the model of course.

That is why I put "Generic European RWD vehicle of bigger and bit luxurious family class." as it is inspired probably equally both of those and still in a way completely original.

I'd say it's based on an E28 with W201 options.

Seems like the best bet so far. Would the E34 5-series be closer (slightly lighter, slightly smaller wheelbase while retaining that BMW handling)?

    The competitor of late E28/early E34 5-Series, W124 E-Klasse, and C3 Audi 100 for civilian versions

There are lots of varieties of cars running in DTM/Gr.A touring car at the time so it isn't weird that ETK use a mid-size sedan to compete

I would say the likes of an E28 BMW is you're best bet, both are roughly the same size and utilise similar powertrain and suspension layouts (minus AWD).

    E28 came out in 1981,
    C3 came out in 1982,
I-Series according to BNG wiki came out in 1983,
    W124 came out in 1984

E28 looks way older than the other 3 though, but the more modern E34 came out in 1987
