Actually, the deal with imports was that they were more expensive than USDM cars (e.g. the compact Toyota Corona had cost as much as the midsize Chevy Malibu, the base midsize BMW 528e had cost about as much as a bigger-than-most-fullsizes Cadillac Fleetwood) and the Japanese ones were not properly rustproofed for the non-warm US climates.
I was referring mostly to the various reports about the Audi 5000 undergoing "Unintended acceleration" when the brake pedal was lifted, causing the vehicle to lurch forward (which happens in any car with an automatic gearbox), causing owners to then stomp on the gas.
It had about as much impact on the German import market as a whole as kicking a wall would have on my house's structural rigidity.
60 minutes has always targeted auto manufacturers unfairly, often making up results for the sole purpose of creating a "problem" that they could sensationalize.
I think the wheels should be a little bit bigger. They look too small for a car like this (proportion wise)
