Group B S2! Nice! They're totally different cars, fortunately. I've been working on my Quattro since 2013, and haven't posted updates for it since early 2014 or thereabouts, so it's understandable if you missed it Yours looks great btw, I'm sure you're happy with it! Would be a magical day if these were released at the same time...
Finish it, put it in BeamNG with a realistic node/beam and I will love you forever. Also, I have collected some refferences of obscure bits of the car depending on how detailed you wanna make it. If you want an interior devoid of the upholstery... I tracked down pictures of the thing stripped down to a skeleton, not just a shell. a skeleton.
A skeleton you say? I suppose the parts that were arc welded to the unibody frame were removed. Those images would be handy for guesstimating strength and rigidity... I'm aiming for Sunburst level detail, so reasonably high. Tell you what, zip up those images and PM me a link. I'll give you a research credit in the release thread when the time comes
I'm reasonably happy with it, lack of reference is annoying but it's coming along well wing and mirrors still need work, i didn't realize the seam across the side until i saw yours, as its so obscured with the stickers etc, I'm not sure whether the front guard is right
putting some magic on the 407. Gonna try a non-coax design with bendable blades, have a skin, some extra details, full coltris, etc. (imported from here)
Yeah, the bodywork is super angular and 80's-tastic. The guard looks pretty correct, but you have a sharp angular change where the fender extrudes out, where the real car has a smoother transition. Don't forget those translucent air guides along the edge of the fender flare. Your headlights are slightly too big; the real car almost looks like it's squinting. One last thing, you need to curve the pillars! This should be a very useful photo for the problems I've listed. (imported from here) Mind if we have a looksee at your wireframe? The shading looks great!
I love the 407 and glad you're giving it a "service life upgrade". Also glad you're not going co-axial with it. How about a skin scheme for the "Map Inspection Service" Seriously though, this thing is prime for an air ambulance service skin.
nice.. is the pic of the three trucks ror or beam i cant make it out it looks too high quality for ror but the coulours are weird like ror
Those pictures are from RoR. And, it is very easy to tell. Everything in RoR has a 'sharp' look to it.
Currently its 95% accurate with the blueprints, but I swear some one pulled them out of there ass, they are appalling, the guards were wrong, and they don't properly line up, they have given me a rough idea of the shape but I have had to use reference images for a lot of it. I'll update with the wire frame when i have time, thanx for pointing out the lights, like i said my blueprints are crap, the sharp edge is based on the non flare version, they are quite exaggerated with having made the edge sharp, but from what I can see it's there. Also i doubt, considering the way the flares are made, that they would bother using different guards, i think i may add another row of polys on the edge to make it a little rounder though. I'll update soon edit: the wing is very much WIP, so are the mirrors edit2: forgot to mention the shading is a little bad on the c-pillar behind the window. edit5: I think this is pretty good,
heres a little something I have been working on... ...dare I tackle a whole front suspension? see below, a small problem I am trying to figure the best way of getting out of... front is all bone stock, the rear bits and pieces are nabbed from the Pigeon DAE, however slightly scaled to fit (a bit smaller than the D15 SRA) Also notice the cut-off exhaust, open pipes no mufflers or resonators, just cut and bent as a passenger (or maybe a driver's) side exit pipe. Looks badass IMO since its gonna be a dirty, rough 4WD offroader. Who needs catalytic converters, anyway? So I just saved it up for the night, figured out the smoothing groups pretty much, however I am seeing some small areas of strange shading here and there (See under the rear seat side glass) and a few other areas, not sure if I have to flip the face/normal? or what, i dunno still pretty new to blender. All credit for parts go to the devs pretty much, I had to hack my way through the rear chassis to get the SRA and (custom) shocks to fit, still need to model up some nice little mounting points and whatnot, but altogether this is a project Id actually like to follow through with. Feedback welcome and constructive criticism, advice etc. 1 quick question: How do you take 2 nodes/vertexes or whatever and join them? I used to know, cant figure it out, right click both nodes and then it was like ctrl+something or something like that. thanks in advance! And Another Question: How do you set all parts' origin to 0,0,0? A lot of the parts you see are lined up properly now but their origins are all over the place. Any quick solution for that? i just know its gonna be a PITA later. Thanks
Select both vertices, Alt+M > merge at first/last/center Select all the parts, Ctrl+A > apply location. Remember to also apply rotation and scale before you export.
You might wanna go with the Moonhawk rear sus instead of the pigeon, leaf springs are a nasty thing to deal with. ^did this a long time ago, when the moonhawk came, before multidae was around. Honestly both the leaf springs are not really ideal and this suspension is a lot more datailed also. It would probably be best if you converted the Sunburst suspension to the Covet, as solid axles are a nasty thing as they are anyway.
Thx for the feedback. .. Yea that all makes sense, this was more or less an exercise in actually getting something modeled correctly amd functioning properly, I realized leafs might not be the best. However, I will still try and make it happen, I mean, I really wanted it to be a heavy duty covet lol maybe I will also make a softer strut version. I wanna stay away from IRS simply cuz boring lol I'm going to fire island today so I'll not be doing any work. I think the thing I'm most proud of is the fact that I'm not totally failing with blender and I keep finding out great shortcuts and hot keys so doing stuff is not so amazingly difficult for me anymore. I'll do some more work over this weekend. But thx for the support, the Sunburst covet is def awesome, good job with that...I was looking closely, there's a few things that could use adjusting such as the engine bay crap that is clipping thru the strut towers and such, maybe I'll tinker with that as well and see how it comes out cuz ocd.
