RHD 200BX is done. Just a bizarre texture glitch I have to sort out before release. (imported from here)
Was that taken with alt+p? when alt+p takes screenshots it turns off parts of the dynamic reflections., i had that problem too.
Del Sol isn't playing anymore. Textures(and some refinements) incoming...need some sleep first though Edit: Here are the refinements I was talking about. I think the model is complete.
Hey, I would love to hear some opinions about this paint effect. I know many dislike the "orange peel" effect in real life, but it looks pretty interesting in game. Do you feel the same? Should I keep it or stick to the original paint? It's also very subtle at distance, as you can see on the black car, which is good
Very nice but i think you should attach the file to the original paint if you release the car in case of orange peel paint haters
Most cars of that vintage generally had very smooth paint, so it's probably best just to stick with no orange peel. That said, you could try out the metallic paint effect (as I'm sure the Del Sol came in at least 1 metallic colour) which looked rather nice in the demonstration you did Another thing to note is that sometimes cars of the 80's (and possible 90's too) do sometimes have orange peel in specific places, for instance, some plastic bumpers are very slightly pitted/rough surfaced compared to the paint, and sometimes there is special, thick orange peel tar stuff on the lower parts of the car to prevent stone chips. Also, another heads up is that the finish on the engine bay should be shiny like the body, rather than flat/off coloured like the underside (this is also the case for the door jambs and inside the boot). Hopefully it's not too late to do with the mapping. Worst case, you can just split the material and use the map both underside and engine materials to the same texture.
Thanks for the facts. I did not do any research on this, I just noticed the effect on my car and thought it could be something neat to try out. My car is from '98 though...so it's probably just an exception. Yeah, I think this is the best way to do it. I'll take some time to think where it would make sense and where it wouldn't. It's not too late I have everything in its own layer in photoshop. I did the enginebay as dark because of how it looks after a crash. (please ignore ugly intercooler) The tone difference makes it interesting. Also you can differentiate the unibody from the body panels. Without the color difference, it would look like a chunk of metal, especially after bigger crashes. I'll try to tone it down a notch though. Maybe also variate the effect in different places like with the orange peel. The doorjambs have the same color as the exterior btw. Thank you very mch for the in-depth feedback man!
Oh boy....Del Sol wreck looks good! As for the paint I'm not an expert on it but I agree this car needs a good, hi-res and crisp paint job that dynamic reflections would love to make home, no orange peel on a car like this. I love the metallic flake idea and hope it's possible eventually.
I know right? Mythbuster really did his best for the jbeam. I think I'll scratch the bumpy paint idea. It was just a test I wanted some feedback on Thank you guys! Edit: Kinda looks like metallic paint with dynamic reflections, hehe.
i actually think it would be sweet to have a nice, glossy, polished brand new version and one with that horrible orange peel on different parts of the car, like a green fender, matte black hood and red bumper, with the orange peel on the non-original parts....similar to how every honda looks near me lol I have never seen a clean del sol, they are always such a wreck. thats realism right there loolol
Hell yeah, that looks real close, flake effect just needs a bit more "pop".....specularity value maybe?
The Del Sol looks awesome Meanwhile here's the last while of progress on the ford, no idea what step it was at last time i posted development but, meh its been like 3 weeks so its a long enough wait Over the last while i made the whole front suspension and steering and I'm pretty happy with where its at now. I also modelled a proper drive-shaft, a transmission and 3 exhaust options for the different models. Any feedback or anything you notice that im missing from around the front end would be super nice
@VeyronEB: That Ford is looking really really sick, I love it. @SoHigh: Yeah I wouldn't bother with the orange peel thing, makes it look odd and kinda like it's been raining on the car. Metallic would be cool, but ambient occlusion is more important imho, and I don't think you can have both unless you have a really really really really high res specular map... That said, the rest of the textures are looking amazing Would tone down the color differences(dark stuff) on the engine bay. It's fine for the underside since that stuff always gets dirty within like 1 km of driving. Usually engine bays are just less shiny since the paint never got polished after getting painted, probably not even clear-coated. Mine almost looks like it has been coated in grease(it probably has). I'm finally done with the fudging awning on the RV. Spent 4 days on that crap. Next up: other side... with awnings on all the windows, but at least those are simple, 1 part constructions. That, or I can decide I'm bored with awnings and I'll just start on the engine/chassis/wheels and crap like that.... 454 Chevy V8 yay. Btw, the awning alone is like 3300 polygons. The mounts were ridiculously stupidly engineered.
