I wanted deep mud and sand in my map, and followed these instructions:
    http://www.beamng.com/threads/terra...ct-as-sand.3615/?p=39866&viewfull=1#post39866
Problem is, it doesn't work for me.
I believe the issue is that since I don't have photoshop (it costs a small fortune), I can't save the ter.depth file as a grayscale .png format, or whatever it's called (saving the file as dark/bright values instead of rgb).
Paint.net, the program I use, doesn't have that option as far as I know.

    Is there some workround?
If there's no workround, can someone with photoshop please contact me, I'll send you the rgb version of the file and you could just convert it?
    Thanks in advance

I really dislike paint.net - it seems to lack many key features that a program of that type should have. Try using GIMP, I'm quite certain that it can do what you need. It's also both free-as-in-beer and free-as-in-freedom - a real bonus IMO. http://www.gimp.org/

Well, it can indeed create 8-bit grayscale png's, but for some reason it still doesn't work in-game.
I have no idea what's the problem.

Works fine for me. I just made this in GIMP and saved it to test. I used 50% gray for the whole thing on Gridmap so it would be easy to tell if it was working or not. It should be the same resolution as your heightmap.
