oh cool, ive never heard of an airflow pattern like that, i usually see intake from front/bottom, and exhaust from back/top.
a setup like that would help me, because my desk and wall trap all the hot air around my computer...the only problem is that i would have to rotate my cpu cooler, and it was an absolute bitch to put on
--you just reminded em i need to dust out my computer esp. my gpu...five months and a ton of dust already X_X

I have a ton of fans and I still get lower temps with the case open :p

My old case (Big old Thermaltake Xaser V) used to have a ton of case fans but they made a ton of noise so I basically hacked them all out. My temps were okay and I ran it with no side panel. My new case (NZXT Phantom. Big case, 4 120mm fans and a big top fan.) runs quite a bit cooler with the side panel on than the old one did with it off.

My CPU is an AMD A8-3850 (Cheap and kinda old but it was free.) and stock is 2.9GHz and it has locked voltage and multiplier but I've been able to get it to 3.4GHz but for some reason one time when I reset the BIOS because of a unrelated problem it now just will not run stable at speeds over around 3150MHz or so. It uses a cheap Kuhler 620 AIO with push/pull fans. I've never seen it go over around 120-125F with the fans on low.

Actually, if you read the initial technical specification of ATX standard back from the mid 90s you will find that's exactly what intel's brilliant engineers come up with. The PSU was to blow 'cold' air down and cool the CPU beneath it. Genius! :p

if it was superior then, it must not be now, because i almost always see PSUs in the bottom of cases, sometimes with completely separate airflow even

Well, on my old P4 rig (Actually still set up this way) it had a big (LOUD) blower fan on top of a hunk of copper to cool the CPU. Because of the length of the wire it had to blow up into the PSU intake and I guess it did help cool the PSU since the air coming out of it was just warm.

Right now that rig is set up in one of my old cases on top of my desk and a while ago I decided to see how far I could push the 3.2GHz HT P4. The heatsink was able to cool over 1.7v of red-hot Pentium. (Although if I turned the fan speed down at that voltage with a fan controller it would hit 180F under load and shut itself off.) Even at 1.7v I wasn't able to crack 4GHz..

    I tested my 2500k @ 1.6Ghz, 4Ghz, and now 4.5Ghz :D I'll post the results later.

    I could do that for my I5 3570K @ 3.8ghz (Stock + Turbo on)

I was about to do more testing but the new update comes with a benchmark so I'll just wait so we can have more reliable results.

    Should I do Moonhawk?

Re: CPU Performance in Drive - Benchmark

thanks for the data, my teachers have been piling on the work recently so i havent been able to check the forums 'tilll now. If you want to / have time to do the moonhawk, then go for it, but davidbc said the next update will have a benchmark (whenever that comes out), so more tests might be a waste of time to some people .

Now that would be a major step up in terms of accuracy and repeatability. Current methodology gives some leeway and results may vary significantly depending on how you set up the scene, use fulscreen or not etc. I'm a a bit of a sucker for benchmarks of all kinds so that's a good news and I'm looking forward to it.

Ok, home for summer so its back to the trusty Q6600! Same GPU though, so the 6870 now permanently resides with the Q6600.

So thats an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @3.0GHz, and AMD Radeon 6870.

    First up, D-Series.

    on off
    1 114 335
    2 52 184
    3 21 132
    4 16 109
    5 12 89
    6 11 76
    7 9 68
    8 8 60
    9 7 56
    10 6 52

    Next, the Covet.

    on off
    1 118 362
    2 62 222
    3 21 143
    4 17 118
    5 13 98
    6 11 81
    7 9 73
    8 8 64
    9 7 57
    10 7 52

Finally, the Moonhawk. Pretty terrible performance here.

    on off
    1 19 242
    2 19 147
    3 15 108
    4 11 83
    5 9 69
    6 8 58
    7 6 51
    8 6 45
    9 5 41
    10 4 37

Overall, seems a fair bit better than the other Q6600, though mine is at 3.0GHz instead of 2.4GHz. Not sure why the Moonhawk so soo much worse, but the other two cars are very playable.

Will probably do it again when the pre-race update arrives, to see i get a decent increase in FPS since im heavily CPU Bottlenecked.

I guess I should bench my chip. I thought the update with the branch would be out soon. Expect it in a day or two.

In a few days I'll benchmark my AMD A10-4600M and possibly a crappy Celeron (don't know model number). Expect sub-20 results.

If this is been tested before i'm sorry for bothering, but has anyone tested what beamng could do with intel xeon processors? BeamNG being so power hungry on the cpu, i would love to see what it did on a quad xeon server setup lol.

there are two xeons for the D-Series, but not for anything else

oh -- a quad xeon setup would be awesome!

    - - - Updated - - -

i guess i should have a separate tables for the update..what would be the easiest way to do this? a google doc of some sort?(rather than having pages of massive tables in the forum?)
