You honestly make it sound like you have never been in a car. Its surprising how little extra room you get in an SUV, usually, none. If I can get a fat guy in the back seat of a 3 door hatchback, an average person can get in an average car without issue. That lifted truck, sure it lets you see over other cars (though I've never had an issue seeing past cars, even while driving a BMW 3 series with the M sport package, aka, slightly bucketed seats giving a lower seating position plus lower suspension), but it comes at a cost of being an obnoxious prick to other road users that then cant see past you.
OMG MUM HE HATS ON MY FAVERIT KERR Jk. Even if i love the Toyota Altezza, i respect other people's opinions
This, exactly. Modern SUV's have tight interiors due to extra rollover protection stuff and although trucks have lots of headroom their foot-room is lacking. I am 6'2 and I fit in my little Subaru just fine, however last time I drove my uncle's ram on a road trip I had to sit in really awkward positions because the foot-room was too small, and I couldn't move the seat back to its farthest point because someone was sitting in the back seat behind me, in a crew cab truck... Same uncle is 6'6 and has the same problem, though he fits just fine in his mid 2000's Altima. The advantage of height is fine on the road to see ahead but it comes at the cost of comically large blind spots, hell in parking lots or traffic you either have to leave huge gaps between other cars or guess where they are, and forget seeing anything with a shoulder check to the rear blind spots; if your mirrors cant see it, chances are you wont see it. Lastly, I will never know why trucks have to have the seats they do, only the newest ones have been in any way comfortable, but any car with half decent seats still feels much more comfortable. Sure you get to see ahead, but at the cost of being unable to easily tell your surroundings. You may be safer in a frontal collision at that height, but remember other people wont be, and automotive manslaughter charges do exist. Trucks are fine off-road, but in the city anyone in one is both at a disadvantage to themselves, and poses a disadvantage to others. /Endrant#2 EDIT Pretty sure @Zappymouse was saying that amarks, clayton and 6677 are not idiotic children, that was the intention of the "save" EDIT2 Just felt like adding this: My father's first car was an MG midget. He is 6'4 and he fit ,although only with about half an inch of headroom with the top down. Surprisingly that car has a decent amount of legroom.
Being able to see over most cars means absolutely nothing 99.9% of the time. If there was something in front of the vehicle in front of you, they would stop. I am 6' 4" and fit in a Mazda6 and Subaru Legacy just fine. They don't have particularly high rooflines either.
By that logic it doesn't matter if nobody can see past you either. it's not the height of the cabin that's the problem(it just feels awkward being as low as most cars are and they are hard to get into) with most cars I've been in(with the exception of larger vehicles like buses or motorhomes) are just too narrow for me.
Anything stanced. Stretched tires, super low suspension, loads of negative camber. Congratulations, you've managed to simultaneously ruin your car's handling, ride, reliability, safety and grip, all for the sake of aesthetics and a passing fad. More and more great sports cars are being effectively castrated with over stretched tires and rock hard suspension because of stance. Each time a miata or an e30 is stanced, that's one less car for us to enjoy driving. Seriously, anyone who has a stanced car cannot appreciate driving, otherwise they wouldn't put up with suspension that feels like a jackhammer pounding away at your taint, and horrible understeer. Here's a few examples of what I'm talking about: And the worst part of it all is that some people will actually argue that these mods improve your car's handling because "lower center of gravity" despite the fact that you have effectively no grip to make use of it.
Speaking of, what would you, @Slammington, think of that Z if it had an IMSA-style body kit and a 5-digit-RPM small-block Chevy instead?
Pretty good. My only beef is the small block chevy, if I had to pick an engine for it I'd have to go with either a 1UZ-FE or a 1JZ-GTE. Yes i'm a toyota fanboy --- Post updated --- True that. I'd drool for an unmolested s30, E30, miata, etc.
A man after my own heart. OT (sort of) Not cars, but in the world of motorcycles I dislike Harley's. I wont start on their owners, that's pretty self explanatory, but the bikes are heavily overpriced and the build quality is very poor. As far as I can tell, either the bikes must shake themselves apart or no-one in the factory has heard of torque wrenches or proper safety bolt set up. I would have less animosity towards Harley if they bothered to attempt to make a more modern, well built bike, but then again Buell did just that, and they went under. I guess if you lead a cult have a big fan-base, you don't need to care about quality.
I hate this thread, seems all the examples are simply due to what's done to the car by Weeaboos with daddy's money. In of themselves, 90% of the cars mentioned are actually nice cars when you don't put fender flares, lowered suspension and stupid wheels on them. Some cars are pointless, like the hummer H2, but I guarentee even cars that I personally dislike are likely quite nice to own. I wouldn't say no to owning an escalade, even though I do think they're pretty dumb. That said, if I had the 80 thou I'd need to get an Escalade, I'd instead buy a much nicer Volvo than my own. Owning a car, unless you have a FIAT Panda then you learn that anything beats having no car.
The problem with the 1UZ-FE is... well, is that the V8 that came in the Lexus SC? If so, that's a bit of an oddball engine here in the States as far as I know and I'm not sure how much aftermarket support it would actually have. And the 1JZ probably won't make the kind of power I'm thinking of here unless you put a big laggy turbo on it. Not that an 800-900 horsepower, 10K+ RPM small block is going to have any power down low, but I'd still rather have that than a turbo. Also, the sound of a high-revving cross-crank V8 is absolutely lovely.
Well, the first generation SC had a 1uz, but the second gen, round looking one came with a more modern 3UZ. As for power, I'm sure a 9500RPM 1uz could do the trick ;p
LS swaps. While not a huge fan of the LS motor on the basis of meh, old fashioned pushrod engine that aint particularly fancy, its still not a bad motor. But I do just get bored of the sheer number of LS swaps. I support the idea of a 1UZ swapped datsun simply to be different from the sheer quantity of LS'es, heck, do a VH41 or VH45 to stay within the marque. Maybe I should move to the states and put a JDM v8 in a classic muscle simply to piss people off.
Any high performance BMW 5 series after the E39. Any high performance BMW 3 series after the E46 Any high performance Audi after the 80. Anything with a Mercedes badge on it. Including Brabus. The WRX STI after 2014. I liked the hatch, but the 2015 one looks over the top and doesn't sound badass enough. The Golf GTI and the Golf R. They are too refined.
