Constant game-breaking Lag spikes

I played BeamNG today, and as soon as I loaded a map up, there were huge lag spikes that would freeze the game for several seconds, and the spikes would happen constantly. I loaded the game without mods and the problem only became worse.

I decided to check the integrity of the files and it came up with an error, which I attached. Can someone help me figure out what's happening?

 

Steam should fix the issue by itself after verifying integrity I guess.

Not sure why game engine would get different though, potential reasons are Virus, disk drive failure, antivirus doing something odd, or some modification.

If Steam did not fix that, you can delete game engine.zip and then do verify integrity again. It should be then ok, unless there is other issues like HDD/SDD failing.

 

run hwinfo and find out if something is bottlenecked, sometimes a severe CPU bottleneck can cause a GPU to be hunting through power states, trying to save power, this can cause lag spikes. Also using hwinfo check for any throttling, your CPU or GPU might be overheating. If so then clean the dust out of your PC!
