I tried to keep to myself but you guys keep going back and forth, and I can no longer keep my mouth shut. If you publicly release a mod for free, people are able to do whatever they want to it for their personal use. At that point, their "owners" of the mod (not creators, just owners).

The point you're trying to prove has no real validity. It's like giving someone a bowl of plain ice cream and then telling them that they can't put their own sprinkles on it; it's not like they're taking your ice cream, putting sprinkles on it, and then giving it to someone else and taking credit.

You're the one at fault for leaving the unused files in the released mod anyway...

Beamng modders when someone uses assets put in a publicly released mod on a public forum anyone can access

 

Anyone can access items in this publicly open shop, that means I can take and use them for free right? Even if the shop owner tells me not to.

Mfw modders tell people not to modify a mod for any purpose and people completely disregard that and do anyway and then the modder gets annoyed and then people complain about the modder getting annoyed but those same people would probably complain about bootleg sites reuploading 'free publicly released mods'

so, if a modder like Lucas makes a high-quality mod that he has been working on for over a year, as well as making a high-quality edition that has many special features, then the community of five year olds say "OOOHHH GIVE ME MODDD LINK NOW!!!11!! IF U DONT GIVE U R HATER!!!11!1!!" Then the mod creator gets understandably pissed, but still works on the mod, but people dont stop being rude and force him to lock the thread because the community has been exceptionally rude, so he doesn't want to continue the mod, and says NOT to modify the files as HE HAS WORKED ON THEM AND CREATED THEM AND PUT WORK INTO THEM (he gets to say what happens, you wouldn't have that mod without his work). AND THEN PEOPLE OPPOSE HIM FOR NOT ALLOWING PEOPLE TO ABUSE AND MODIFY THE FILES HE HASN'T FINISHED/RELEASED? Do not get mad at Lucas for being mad at a community that is slowly detiriorating and sinking into madness. I support Lucas 100% and a lot of the community supports him too.

You missing a part of it, he doesn't allow for his DeLorean mod to be modified in any way even from the simplest things like skins, engine related, bodykits, etc. They are not bashing on him for that bttf items, they are bashing on the fact that nobody can modify the delorean if they wanted to and this:

I'm sure if Lucas believed you were capable of making something of decent enough quality that it wasn't "butchering" his mod, and you actually asked him politely, he would probably allow it.
(unfortunately, giving any such lenience leads every 12-year-old, who you specifically didn't want, thinking that every asset in the mod is free to use for whatever they please.)

Well, that person who gave the ice cream away didn't make it. They didn't source it from a farm. They didn't make the milk.
Lucas made the body of the DeLorean from scratch. That is a lot of hard work. Comparing it to the ice cream scenario is ridiculous.

Except you can make infinite copies of a mod. Someone who makes and sells pottery has the right to be angry when somebody smashes their fanciest vase. They don’t really need to be angry if they have an infinite number of identical vases for sale.
