I agree, the wheels are offputting. At the least there could be an option to fit the 6-spoke style (I can't remember the name) from e.g Vivace rally/asphalt. Then it would at least look like an F40 LM.
I wouldn't add extra megabytes to the release if I didn't think it needed it. It was noticeable. That is why I upped the resolution. I could go into how it is noticeable, but you wouldn't read it, so just trust me, it looks better this way.
At 8k the texture looked alright on the interior, however the texture for the upcoming carbon skin looked too big on the outside of the car, due to the way the model is UV mapped. The outside of the car looked bad with the 8k texture on it, so I upped it to 10240x10240, which fixed it, however BeamNG won't cook normal map textures that are not multiples of 2. Example: 1024, 2048, 4096, 8192, 16384. In order to make the carbon skin look good and save space, I made the carbon texture for the interior share the skin texture. If I would have had the 8k texture and the 16k texture inside the zip file, it would not have been under the file size limit to upload to BeamNG forums. The reason the difference between the 8k and 16k texture is noticeable is because of the way the model was UV mapped. It was mapped with many different parts of the model on the same sheet. Because of this, each part of the UV map has actually very small pixel space relatively speaking for a texture that is 4096x4096 or even 8192x8192. I didn't want to remap the outside texture, because it was not necessary. Remapping the inside was because there were so many parts on one UV sheet. When the inside textures were only 4k, all the textures looked blurry even with normal mapping. So, this is why they are 8192x8192. That is why the carbon fiber texture is 16k.
I am working doing that right now and also adding the exhaust properly. Exhaust and wheels/tires are fixed right now, but I am fine tuning. I am not in a rush, though.
The reason on why i said that the download is large is because i used to only download car mods that were under 200 MB because my computer came with 216 GB out the door and over 100 was just windows and another 40 was beamng drive (mods included) and other steam games
Experimental track tune config coming next update. The new settings are even faster than the old unrestricted LM spec car. Three-point-seven seconds faster than the old. Requires a steady hand with proper throttle and brake control. The car is certainly faster than this, but this is what I have been able to get the car to do. A more experienced car driver would be faster most likely. (Right-click the images and open them in a new tab/window to see them full size). New specs Experimental custom racing tires (245/40ZR17 front, 335/35ZR17 rear.) LM specific rims are coming. Custom experimental exhaust New racing exhaust pipes (untextured currently).
It's not ready yet. I've gotta fix some gauges, texture the new exhaust pipes, and put a better texture on both types of rims.
