Hey, it would be great if you could share this technique with us. How do you tell the editor to place objects in certain areas and it even looks like some rocks are following the angle of slopes? Very much appreciated!
--- Post updated --- Happy to share my map creation secrets! I use blender to procedurally place my forest and rocks. I use geometry nodes to achieve this. The specific thing you’re talking about, I use the large rocks from Johnson valley, and generate them on a a specific slope based on the normal of the terrain. However there is a tool in the Beam editor called the biome tool that works similarly to my Blender geonode setup. I just have more power in Blender for now.
Will the final forum release include the full level of detail or will it still be just a demo for a paid map?
Currently, the only planned difference in the free and paid is terrain detail and update frequency.(subject to change) When I feel the map is completely finished, or I'm finished working on it. I will probably have both versions available for free here on the forums and one of the 2 on the repo.
Every time I head out I find myself in a new location yet I still can't find any of the nice off-road areas. To be fair, I couldn't find my way out of a paper bag if I were at the exit but still. Oh well, I shall keep looking.
Caney ridge free is now on BeamMP! Caney Ridge, USA - OTB Modding Just type "Caney" in the server search.
Hey love the map and progress so far! Just downloaded the free version from the patreon page and I noticed the trees and rocks do not have any collision. Is there a quick way to fix it by myself before you are able to ? edit: nevermind the game itself was removing collisions and saying that I dont have enough ram lol my pc specs are these: i5 9600k, 32gb of ram and a rtx 3080
it may be required to turn your graphics settings down a bit, though I’ve had people play it with 16gb of ram and it ran fine for them. Caney Ridge is a hungry beast that always wants more.
Began playing the map in earnest, its very impressive and has insane potential. No other map in beamng is close to as realistic in terms of scale and the types of roads and scenery that is on this map. This map reminds me the most of my own irl adventures in the mountains. Its very cool to look off in the distance at a mountain knowing theres a trail on it you can drive on. Keep up the good work and here are some glamour shots.
