Gabester should make Soviet counterparts to all of the American cars and an "America vs. the USSR" game mode! Imagine racing the Bluebuck against a GAZ Chaika type thing

thats one of the reasons I suggested setting it up like test drive EOD, in career mode you drove to the outskirts of the free roam area and selected your track from a list. seems that it would be simple enough to add maps with that setup. also if you purchased cars the same way you did in EOD, added cars would be easy to get at aswell. then you have the shop for car customization, it all seems like it would work well.but yea, one hell of a ps2 game.

This sounds like a really good idea. I really think a more realistic, grindy style of gameplay would fit this game really well.

This is good idea. Like where you have your own house and job and can buy second hand cars. It would be epic.
(Maybe if you are speeding and a cop sees you they could chase you)

This thread actually seems pretty useful considering it allows the devs to see what kind of things people want in a campaign mode, and who knows, with the size difference between the entire community and the dev team we might actually come up with some ideas that the devs might have otherwise missed. Anyway, it's already been bumped and I've been mulling over a few ideas for campaign so here goes.

I'm putting it in a spoiler to keep the size of the post down.
    STRUCTURE:
It should probably be integrated with freeroam such that you can only drive a car in freeroam if you have unlocked/bought it in campaign. If they gave us the chance to use every car in the game in freeroam the campaign would lose a lot of it's sense of accomplishment and bore us with having to use anything other than a supercar.

They could just make it into a series of scenarios, but I feel like that would be a bit of a cop out. Instead, I'd like to see the player start in a single region with the means to acquire one of two or three base model cars that have their own pros and cons. After you picked a car, you could use left over money to upgrade it a bit, and then you would be off on your way of exploring the region. For the sake of example, lets say you start in east coast usa. You would start at a car lot, buy your desired car, and then have to drive to another location to actually modify it. Someone else suggested the ability to "learn" how to upgrade it in your own "home", and I think that that's a wonderful idea.

The races/levels would be started at set locations in the world and would work. by and large, like the scenarios. This would force the player to work their way up to different types of vehicles more appropriate to the event. Want to do a crawling challenge? Well you could just do it in the covet, but you'd be a lot better off if you saved up and got a D15. Other events, like delivery, could only be done if you had a car that could do it.

After you get enough money or beat enough events, you would gain the ability to travel to another map with your cars and try your hand at it's challenges. You would be able to go back to maps you have already been to, and they would get new races every so often to keep it from getting stale. Think Midnight Club 3. Some events (like rally) would take place in more than one map, with free travel to all of it's starting lines.

    DAMAGE:
If you were forced to deal with every mistake you made while roaming around between races it would get very frustrating very fast when all of your vehicles were destroyed and you had no money. Because of that, I think the non-race portion of the campaign should allow you to re-spawn your car for free.

The events would be different... If you crashed in an event, you could restart it an infinite number of times, but if you finish the race, your car would then remain in that condition and you would have to pay to fix it. This includes fuel consumption. The state of your car after a race would then be how it would always respawn in the "free-roam" part of the campaign until you fixed it.

    CUSTOMIZATION:
You would have to pay for upgrades to your vehicle, and It would be really cool if they let you get involved in more of your car. Instead of just letting us pick an engine and transmission, they should let you opt for stronger internals, different forced induction set-ups, and different suspension settings. All of these thing would have pros and cons, but to be fair, it is nearly impossible to build a car that is perfect at every event. You would have to be wise about how you upgrade your fleet.

To compensate for those who wouldn't understand these upgrades, you could also buy "performance packs" that excel in simplicity and ease, but don't let you get as much specificity. For example, you could just buy the "Stage 1" pack for the Moonhawk, that would give you a 4 barrel and a better cam (or something), or you could get all of those things on your own and maybe choose to get an even better cam while you're at it.

When buying a car, you would get to pick any of the current presets for that vehicle at appropriate pricing. You would have to decide if it is cheaper to build your desired car, or buy it. Some features would be impossible to get after the fact, like factory rims or trim packages.

Some upgrades would force you to take it to a "tuning" shop to balance reliability and performance how you'd like it. If you got a turbo you could choose to run lower boost to get good reliability, or run the maximum boost for that turbo and accept the fact that it won't last as long in that configuration. Later on, you could get other parts to increase your durability threshold, like better intercoolers, methanol injection, or stronger internals. It would still be possible to boost the engine to death, but you could run much more boost safely than before.

    MISC:
Traffic. I'm aware of why it's a pipe dream, but I also feel like it's a necessity that we all won't admit to. It would get awfully quiet exploring empty maps for the whole campaign. We can dream.

There should be different shops for different things. You would have a pant & body shop, a repair shop, a race shop, and a dyno shop, in addition to your own garage. This was one of my favorite features in NFS underground 2, and I'd like to see the idea in this game.

Some races would reward you with a car as the top prize, and that would be the only way to get that specific car. You might be able to buy most of the Barstows that they made at the car lot, but if you want the Kingsnake you would have to win it.

Obviously a lot of these ideas hinge on realistic running gear damage, but since the devs have said that they want to implement that, I'll take the ball and run with it.

Alright spiel over. You can give yourself a well earned pat on the back if you actually read through all of that.
